Almost 30 years after the original film, Disney has confirmed an official release date for Hocus Pocus 2, directed by Anne Fletcher and written by Jen D'Angelo.
A popular childhood favourite and certified cult classic in fantasy comedy horror, the original film—released 1993—tells the story of a young boy who moves to Salem and inadvertently awakens a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century.
It got 11 award nominations and won two of them.
Disney released a 1-minute teaser trailer for the sequel on their YouTube channel on June 28.

The trailer teases a modern departure from the original with some impressive tidbits of CGI, and introduces fans to new faces in the cast.
Along with the sequel's first announcement last year, Disney offered plot details. "Three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world."
To the delight of OG fans, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Doug Jones of the original cast will be reprising their roles.
Joining the cast in new roles are Whitney Peak who—fittingly—was in the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, internet personality Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale of Arrested Development, and Sam Richardson of Veep.
The sequel is confirmed to land on Disney+ on September 30 this year, just in time for the Halloween season.
The original movie is also on the platform for fans who'd like a refresher in the meantime.
