Hugh Jackman offered £1 co-ownership from Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham rivals

He may have played an entrepreneur in The Greatest Showman, but it turns out Hugh Jackman didn’t fancy buying a football team for £1.

The actor was offered the chance to become a co-owner of a rival team shortly after his Deadpool 3 co-star Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham AFC in 2021.

However, the action hero had a good reason for declining the offer.

Clubs had been keen for Jackman to become an owner after seeing how successful Wrexham was after Reynolds' investment with fellow actor Rob McElhenney.

The small Welsh football club had gained an insane amount of public support after its American takeover, with new fans and increased media attention.

The teams were also hoping to cash in on Reynolds and Jackman’s comic rivalry, with the actors constantly teasing each other on social media and in the press. It was this that initially tempted The Wolverine actor to invest.

“I will admit to you that when Ryan bought that team, I did get more than one offer from rivals of that team for £1 to come in as a co-owner and it did seriously tempt me,” he admitted while appearing on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.

However, Jackman decided to decline and explained why to the BBC presenter.

“This whole thing of outsiders coming in and buying football teams, it feels a little, I don't know, easy,” he said.

While Jackman might not be buying any of Wrexham’s rivals any time soon, he still hopes his favourite team will help him get revenge on his co-star.

Jackman is also a huge Norwich City fan and joked that he would love to score a goal against his on-screen rival’s team.

He added: “I have decided to go one step further, I’m actually going to try out for the team”.

While it was a tongue-in-cheek comment, it could form a huge part of Jackman’s training as he prepares to return to the role that made him a household name in Deadpool 3.

The Wolverine actor has already started his insane workout routine and shared the results on Instagram – with the Aussie actor promising to be ‘bigger than ever’.

If that wasn’t enough, Jackman even teased Reynolds about how shredded he’s become.

Along with a post of his biceps, the actor joked that it ‘wasn’t a competition’ despite him being significantly older than the Green Lantern actor.

Maybe he could also add-in some keepy uppies too, eh?
