Fans Reckon The Boys Star Karl Urban Would Be Perfect To Play Wolverine

Fans Reckon The Boys Star Karl Urban Would Be Perfect To Play Wolverine

The New Zealand actor has spoken out about whether he would want to take on the iconic Marvel character.

If we asked you to think of a superhero or comic book character that we'd describe as hairy, muscly, and mean, would you immediately think of Wolverine?

Well, in this case we're talking about The Boys' Karl Urban.

But you wouldn't be the only one noticing the similarities between Urban's character on the hit Amazon show, Billy Butcher, and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

A viral tweet has seen plenty of people voice their support for the Kiwi actor to take on the iconic role.

In fact, Urban is on Reddit's wishlist of actors to portray the character on the big or small screen now that Jackman has hung up Wolverine's adamantium claws for the final time.

The Guardian's Stuart Heritage was the one who broke the news to Urban.

"I tell [Urban] it is a place where, if you search for Karl Urban, you will find hundreds of pictures of his face cropped onto Wolverine’s body," Heritage wrote following a recent interview with the star of The Boys.

And Urban's response? He burst out laughing.

"It’s flattering, but you have to rationally think about it," Urban said. "I’m what, two years younger than Hugh Jackman?"

Urban is actually four years younger than Jackman, but that's neither here nor there.

"I mean, if I was a studio looking to cast someone as Wolverine, I’d pick someone I’ll get three films out of," Urban said.

"You’re not going to get three films out of Karl Urban unless you want a 65-year-old Wolverine."

Boo. Well that puts that fan fantasy casting to bed.

That being said, the comics do feature an 'Old Man Logan' version of the Wolverine character, so we wouldn't write Urban off on age alone.

Some have questioned whether Urban's height would be a problem as well.

Wolverine is supposed to be 5'3, and with Ubran coming in at 6'1, he may be too tall.

Then again, Jackman comes in at a lanky 6'3, so apparently canon doesn't get in the way that much.

However, one short king has already been suggested for the gig and you will certainly know him from another massive print to film franchise.

Some fans reckon Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe would be perfect to take on the role.

Radcliffe comes in at 5'5, much closer to the Wolverine character's height and he's been asked about whether he would want to do it.

"I don’t see them going from Hugh Jackman to me," he said. “But who knows? Prove me wrong, Marvel.”

Other possible names for the role have included Rocketman's Taron Edgerton, Venom star Tom Hardy, and Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam.

Oh, and there's always the little detail that more than 10,000 people signed a petition to get Danny DeVito to take over the role.

Talk about dream casting, right there.
