Netflix fans have major complaint about top-watched show viewed for almost 80,000,000 hours

The show is the top series on Netflix right now

Netflix’s newest show starring Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock has been a massive hit for the streamer, amassing almost 80,000,000 hours of viewing in just a week.

Despite this, fans binging the TV series are coming out with a common complaint, with some going as far as to say it ruins the series.

The near-80,000,000 hours of viewing has left the series atop Netflix’s worldwide charts for the last week, still currently sitting at number one worldwide.

The series follows a woman who believes her sister has fallen into some sort of cult after discovering her bizarre relationship with her new boss.

Called Sirens, the show follows Milly Alcock as Simone and her sister Devon, played by Meghann Fahy.

What are critics saying about Sirens and what is the major complaint fans have?

The Netflix series released to predominantly positive reviews, with a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.9 on IMDb. It also clocked in 79,200,000 hours viewed, with 16,700,000 different devices watching the show so far.

With Fahy, Moore, and Alcock joined in the cast by Kevin Bacon, Glenn Howerton, and a host of recognisable celeb faces, many reviews have praised the series as being a fun easy watch, with it only being five one-hour long episodes.

Fans, however, have had one common complaint.

Minor spoilers ahead for Sirens

One viewer took to Reddit, posting a long thread about how he felt that Alcock’s character Devon was simply too unlikeable.

Their laundry list of issues are far too long to list in one article, however range from her calling her sister a ‘wh*re’ to showing up to her sister’s work and sabotaging her to her believing gossip from a random stranger.

They say: “I hate Devon. Like with a burning passion… Simone doesn't owe her anything.”

Do other Netflix viewers agree?

Others in the comments chimed in to agree, with one fan saying: “I feel exactly the same way. Devon is an incredibly annoying, affected character and I had to laugh when the writers clearly didn’t know how to keep her writing consistent.”

Another said: “I liked Devon's role in the show, but I agree that the producers took it too far.

“I think her over-sexual drive wasn't really explored [as a plot point]. If the only point was to show her as unhinged, it didn't really do it for me.”

Others however leapt to defend the show.

One replied to the above comment saying: “I think thats just a coping mechanism with her being an alcoholic. Whenever she would want a drink, she now smokes a cigarette and/or has sex with whomever is available.

“Thats actually a pretty common thing amongst addicts, to replace one addiction with another supposedly less harmful one.”

Another fan responded saying: “I think you may have missed the point. No one in the show is a monster. We’re led to believe that Michaela is a monster, and in the end the message is that she isn’t.

“This message applies to the other characters as well. It’s about circumstances and how they shape who you become. That’s my take, anyways.”

Sirens is available to watch on Netflix now.
