The creators of Stranger Things have once again reignited fears amongst fans as they gave a bit of a tease of the show’s ending.
As fans sit and wait (semi-patiently) for the next two drops of season five, little sneak peeks, interviews and trailers have been keeping their appetite fed.
But it’s not necessarily always the content they want, with a first look at volume two hinting at the loss of a major character. And now, the Duffer Brothers have added to that in a recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon.
Sharing an exclusive clip from the Netflix hit during the show, they were also asked to arrange little figurines of characters to reflect how Stranger Things will end.

Even the host seemed worried as a certain someone was sent plummeting from his desk.
Yep, let’s cut to the case, hold those tears lads – it’s Steve.
The Duffer Brothers’ antics
“I was wondering if you can arrange them [the figurines] on my desk, in a way that gives a few hints to everyone of how the rest of Stranger Things will go,” Fallon suggested as the creators were more than happy to go ahead.
Matt and Ross Duffer were then busy moving the characters about, piling Henry, Will and then Vecna on top of each other as Eleven was placed in a glass of water.
“This is Steve,” they announced, as the character was put right on the edge of the desk.
“Woah,” a worried Fallon said as the brothers assured: “He’s fine.”
But, I mean, is he?
And whether it was an accident or not, Steve ended up falling off the edge as the audience gasped and the host joked: “There it is – that’s how Stranger Things ends.”

While he was quickly placed back on the desk, fans aren’t convinced and it’s added to the existing fears that the character might die by the end of season five.
So, with Ross even sharing a close-up of the balancing Steve onto his Instagram story, fans are back in their frenzy of fearing for the character as they write on X: “DON’T YOU DARE TAKE STEVE AWAY FROM MEE.”
Steve’s fate in the final of Stranger Things
Well, whether the Duffer Brothers are just taking the p**s or not, there are plenty of fingers now pointing to bad things for Steve.
In the volume two trailer, we saw emotional scenes of he and Dustin saying: “You die, I die,” with Netflix adding it to their X bio.
A call back to previous seasons of the show, the on-screen besties’ exchange quickly had fans fearing for the worst.
One wrote: “No way the Duffers are this cruel. I'm not ready for Christmas to hurt this bad."
The Duffer Brothers have previously said there will be no ‘bloodbath’ of major characters all dying at the end, but it seems reasonable to presume there will be a death, or two.
Following the Fallon appearance, one wrote: “If they kill Steve, it’s game over for them!!!"
As another said: “PROTECT STEVE BUBBLE WRAP HIM AND LEAVE HIM ALONE.”
Others wondered if it simply meant Steve ‘falls from the sky’ or maybe sacrifices himself and miraculously comes back. Well, I guess, who knows…
What has his on-screen bestie said?
Gaten Matarazzo previously also addressed Dustin’s tension with Steve, as the pair weren’t so friendly as they usually are in the first episodes of season five.
He told Deadline that Steve is ‘probably the most important person’ in Dustin’s life as he also teased things to come.
“I don’t necessarily want to go into it because I think we do explore it later on,” the actor said. “I don’t necessarily want to talk about the details from what’s been seen in the first half of the season because it is something that’s tackled.
“I’m excited for people to see how that unfolds.”
Stranger Things 5, Volume One, is now streaming on Netflix.
