Sean Paul doesn’t actually say Sean de Paul in his songs

Wait... what?

In perhaps one of the biggest revelations of the year, it turns out that singer Sean Paul has never once said 'Sean de Paul' in any of his songs, and we've actually been mishearing him for years.

To be fair, it's very common for singers to announce themselves at the beginning of a song - just ask Jason Derulo or Mr Worldwide himself, Pitbull.

But Sean Paul is not one of those artists. So, next time you're listening to songs like 'Temperature' and you *think* you hear him utter the words 'Sean de Paul', just know you are sorely mistaken.

I know, I was shocked too.

Fans made the mind-blowing discovery after one Twitter user @Santokie89 confessed that he used to think Sean Paul was shouting out the name 'Chanderpaul' at the start of his songs 'in a weird tribute to the Cricket player.

While people might have laughed at this guy when he first admitted that, he wasn't exactly wrong.

After doing some deep diving, @Santokie89 was proud to report that he had actually been right the whole time.

It turns out this one fan's theory was correct all along.

You can see the cold, hard evidence for yourself if you watch the singer's interview with Vice, where he breaks down his iconic song 'Get Down'.

At the very end of the interview, right as the credits start to roll, he's asked how he went from Sean Paul to Sean de Paul - only to reveal that that's not what he's been saying at all.

"There was a famous cricketer in Trinidad, Shivarine Chanderpaul," he explained.

"Everybody was like 'Chanderpaul' and yo, that name stuck. And then I just started to say it at shows and met the dude Chanderpaul years later, and he's like 'Yo!'

"But yeah, big up to Shivarine Chanderpaul."

If this is brand new information to you, don't feel too bad, as it looks like most fans had no idea either.

For example, one person very rationally tweeted: "I've been living a lie for 20 years."

Another fan, who was more impressed than devastated, wrote: "If you’re going to learn one thing today, make it this.. mind blown."

Meanwhile, other fans who suspected he might have been saying 'Chanderpaul' but convinced themselves it couldn't be true, were absolutely ecstatic.

One chuffed fan raved: "YES! Knew it couldn't just be coincidence. Amazing."

And a second shared: "I used to make this joke at Uni, but it was facts all this time!"

For these guys, this is what I would call a Christmas miracle.
