Social media has bizarre reaction to Penn Badgley in first look at You season 4

Social media has bizarre reaction to Penn Badgley in first look at You season 4

The new stills for the Netflix show have fans calling for him to take on a whole new role.

As Penn Badgley returns as serial killer Joe Goldberg on Netflix’s You, social media has had a truly strange reaction to the teaser, calling for the actor to play Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Fantastic Four.

As stills of the 35-year-old actor behind the scenes of his popular show made the rounds on Twitter, many began pointing out Badgley’s striking resemblance with the rather stretchy superhero.

One person wrote: “Our Reed Richards!”

Another said: “Him as Mr Fantastic though.”

A third person commented: “Yeah he’s the perfect Reed Richards IDGAF.”

While another joked: “That’s Dr. Reed Richard’s to you, sir.”

This definitely has something to do with fan art, courtesy of the talented Bosslogic of the Gossip Girl actor depicting the founding member of the legendary superhero group.

While we admit that this is a pretty specular mock-up photo, Badgley might have some competition, as The Office’s John Krasinksi is rumoured to reprise the role of Mr Fantastic in the potential reboot.

The 42-year-old actor appeared as Reed in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so naturally, he’s emerged as the main contender.

But Fantastic Four fans were left slightly disappointed after the D23 Expo recently, as there are no official announcements of a reboot despite the rumour mill churning hard.

Fans began to speculate that a new project was in the works earlier in May when Marvel unveiled their trailer for Phrase 4.

In the teaser of its upcoming movie slate, the MCU gave fans some new details about what's in store, including the title of the Black Panther sequel (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and a release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. (5 May 2023).

But many were quick to point out how the new emblem looked eerily similar to the Fantastic Four’s logo, and let’s face it; Marvel is known to be hella cryptic.

Shortly after the trailer was released, one fan wrote: “This still doesn’t feel real yet. #FantasticFour.”

Another said: "Fantastic Four in the MCU finally. I've waited my whole life for this."

While a third fan shared: "So I've just found out they're doing a new film with the Fantastic Four and I'm so bloody happy."

Stay tuned for more.
