The Last Of Us fans angry that season finale is the shortest of the season

The ninth and final episode will also be its shortest

Fans of The Last of Us have been left fuming after discovering that this season's last episode will also be its shortest.

The hit HBO show, based on the video game of the same name, kicked off earlier this year to wide praise from viewers and critics alike. There’s a preview for this season’s finale here:

The Last of Us has a near-perfect 9.1 on IMDB and an almost as equally impressive 96 percent on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.

For those unfamiliar with the show - or the 2013 video game - it's set in 2023, two decades after a mass fungal infection has turned most of the world’s population into zombie-like creatures.

Among the survivors are Joel (played by Pedro Pascal), a man who is tasked with smuggling teenage Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey), who is immune to the infection and could be vital in creating a vaccine, across a post-apocalyptic United States.

The show is set to draw to a close on Sunday (or Monday, if you’re in the UK) with the ninth and final episode.

However, fans have just discovered that the last episode of the season will be the shortest yet at just 43 minutes long - and it’s fair to say some of them are unimpressed.

Taking to Twitter one fan wrote: “The last episode of The Last of Us should be 90 mins instead of 45.

“Especially considering that this season was super short and next season will be the end of the series. I kinda feel like they're gonna announce The Last of Us three game at the end of season two.”

Another commented: “I know I did not just read TLOU episode 9 is 43 minutes long, like, add an hour.”

A third person said: “Me wondering how the storyline is gonna go for episode 9 of #tlou because its 45 minutes long but getting ready to defend everything about it.”

While over on Reddit someone said: “Can’t believe they decided on a 43min runtime for the finale.”

Someone else said: “WTF seriously?? Any reason why it's that short?”

But fans needn’t be too upset as, although we’ve not yet seen season one wrap up, it’s already been confirmed a second is in the works.

UK viewers can catch the final episode on 13 March, at 9:00pm on Sky Atlantic and will be available to stream on NOW shortly after.
