Fans of Toy Story have been taking to the internet to explain why Tim Allen isn't going to be returning to voice Buzz Lightyear in the recently announced new film. You can check out the trailer for Lightyear below.

So, as you might have noticed, the man who played Buzz Lightyear in all of the Toy Story films - Tim Allen - isn't going to be the voice of the Space Ranger in this latest film, entitled simply Lightyear.
That role is to be played by Chris Evans, who is so far the only person who has been confirmed for the film.
However, there is a good reason for this.
This film isn't about the Toy Story version of Buzz Lightyear.
As Woody repeatedly tells him in the first-ever movie in the gigantic Pixar franchise, that version of Buzz Lightyear is just a toy.
He's not a real Space Ranger, just a plastic replica of one.
Tim Allen voices the toy. Chris Evans is voicing the astronaut that inspires the toy Buzz Lightyear. 2 different things

The reason Tim Allen doesn't voice Buzz Lightyear in this is because Tim voices the toy. Chris Evans is the "real life" Buzz and Patrick Warburton is the cartoon Buzz.
As a die hard Toy Story fan, I'm okay with this. The REAL question is will there be a "real life" Zurg? https://t.co/ZEHareFuom

I don't think people realize it's not Chris Evans replacing Tim Allen as the voice of #BuzzLightyear. It's an origin story of who the Buzz we know is based off of. The "REAL" Buzz Lightyear. A human. Not a toy.#Lightyear pic.twitter.com/4CxHuTd0o1

That - it turns out - is why Tim Allen might not have been selected.
As one Twitter user explained: "The reason Tim Allen doesn't voice Buzz Lightyear in this is because Tim voices the toy.
"Chris Evans is the 'real life' Buzz and Patrick Warburton is the cartoon Buzz. As a die-hard Toy Story fan, I'm okay with this.
"The REAL question is will there be a 'real life' Zurg?"
Obviously, as there hasn't been a whole heap of casting news about the project yet, we'll have to wait and see.

You'd have to imagine so, though.
Still, it hasn't stopped fans from being just a little disappointed that Tim Allen hasn't taken part.
At least not in the main role, anyway.
One person wrote: "I've never said this before and hopefully never will again, but why isn't Tim Allen in this?
"That's the voice I associate with Buzz Light-year."
How is #Lightyear not being voiced by Tim Allen? What in the Disney fail is that?

I was disappointed to learn it wasn't Tim Allen.

Another said: "Toy Buzz Lightyear wakes up. Looks to the toy next to him. It's a Captain America action figure.
"'I had the weirdest dream,' Buzz says in his Tim Allen voice. 'I was real...and I sounded like you...'"
That would be an interesting twist, to say the least.
So, there you have it. To infinity and beyond, or whatever.
