Producer Claims Mel Gibson And Donald Glover Are Up For Lethal Weapon 5

They're not 'too old for this s***' after all...

Film producer Daniel Lin has revealed that Lethal Weapon 5 seems as if it is actually going to happen, and the iconic duo of Riggs and Murtaugh, played by Mel Gibson and Donald Glover, will be returning as well.

Yep, contrary to popular belief, the crime-fighting pair aren't 'too old for this s***' after all. In fact, the two veterans are raring to go for a fifth time.

As well as Gibson and Glover, Lin also said that director Richard Donner will be back in the saddle for this outing as well, once it finally gets the green light.

Speaking at The Hollywood Reporter's Producers Roundtable, Lin - who famously produced the remake of Aladdin, IT Chapter Two, and The Two Popes - said: "We're trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie.

"And, Dick Donner's coming back. The original cast is coming back. And it's just amazing. The story itself is very personal to him. Mel and Danny are ready to go, so it's about the script."

There you have it. Let's hope that they can get the right script and push things over the line.

Lin is in the know about this because, as well as producing any future film outings, he was an executive producer on Fox TV's Lethal Weapon TV series, which ran between 2016 and 2019.

If the old band gets back together, it'll be Donner's first film since he took the reins of 16 Blocks back in 2006. He directed all three of the Lethal Weapon sequels as well as the original.

As recently as 2018, Donner was sceptical as to whether the fifth and final outing for Murtaugh and Riggs would ever happen.

He told Nerdist's 'Maltin on Movies' podcast: "And I'm ready to do 5. It's called Lethal Finale. It's very dark.

"And we were all set to go and now Warner Bros. is doing their old-fashioned tricks. Not Warner Bros., there's this guy who runs the studio who's great but they have these people in the legal department who do the negotiating in the most counter-productive way.

"They should be sent to a studio and work with the producers and directors and actors, and learn what makes a film, and then negotiate. But it's just embarrassing."

He continued: "And it's too bad, because there's a wonderful writer named Channing Gibson, who wrote 4 for me, and we have a really great story.

"It IS dark. But I wanted to end it on an emotional note, and I don't think it's gonna happen.

"It's a story I came up with Channing Gibson, the writer who wrote 4, and I'm just having to work it out with the studio. If everybody steps up and we all get together, we'll make it. Mel [Gibson] and Danny [Glover] are on board,

"If they don't...if it doesn't work out, at least we tried. But there's a good...a better chance that you'll see the movie."

As of right now, there's no official confirmation, and no release date. We'll just have to make do with the knowledge that everyone wants to get it over the line.

Make it happen, Warner Bros.
