Netflix viewers have been left on the ‘edge of their seat’ by a thriller the streamer has recently re-added to the platform.

The twist for this movie in particular though is that the action all takes place entirely on computer screens.

Check out the trailer here for the film which many fans deemed a ‘10/10’ must-watch:

The film in question is called Missing (2023) and is a sequel to the equally outstanding Searching (2018).

Both films take place completely on computer screens through FaceTime calls, news reports, and laptop cameras.

Where Searching follows a father (played by John Cho), searching for his missing daughter, Missing reverses that dynamic, and has a young girl looking for her mother after she goes missing.

Starring Storm Reid, Joaquim de Almeida, Ken Leung, and Nia Long, it was previously added to Netflix before being taken down, and just last week was re-added to the platform.

The movie was well received, with a 7.1 on IMDb, an 88 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and an even higher Rotten Tomatoes fan score of 90 percent.

John Nugent, of Empire Magazine, said in their four-star review: “A gripping, well-told, incredibly watchable thriller for a new generation of TikTok sleuths - and a compelling argument to up your average screen-time.”

This is a view held by fans too, who were similarly effusive in their reviews of the film.

One 10/10 review on IMDb said: “I wasn't expecting much as thrillers and horrors are a let down these days butttt... this was actually so good!

“Filmed from a different perspective with so many different 'no ways' and 'omg' scenes.

“I didn't pick my phone up once whilst watching this film and that says a lot for someone with ADHD, I was hooked the whole time.

“Missing was really well written. From the beginning to the end it just kept getting better and better.

“It's not scary (if you don't get scared easily) but, it will have you on the edge of your seat! 10/10 would recommend this.”

One four-star review on Letterboxd was to the point and clear, saying: “Would like 10 more of these please.”

Writer Zoe Rose Bryant said in their four-star review on Letterboxd: “Why was this actually sort of a serve omg???

“It’s maybe not as anxiety-inducingly 'authentic' as Searching - making a few leaps in logic and taking us in an INSANE direction in the third act - but the twists are just as thrilling (if not more so - multiple had me audibly GASPING) and the film’s emotional foundation of this strained relationship between mother and daughter is so relatable and riveting the whole way through.

“The people calling this the 'airport novel version of Searching' aren’t too far off, but that’s still a MIGHTY fine time at the movies in my book.”

Missing is available to stream on Netflix in the UK and Ireland now.
