Former Nickelodeon child actor freaks out over how much she's paid in residual payments

When it comes to child actors, you may believe that they’re set for life after landing a part on a long-running American TV series, no matter how small the role is.

However, Californian actress Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori has proved that’s not quite the case - revealing exactly how much she receives from Nickelodeon more than two decades later in a viral crashout.

The more pop culture-oriented among us may already know that Hyatt Tedmori played Dorothy ‘Doris’ Trembly on the beloved Nickelodeon series, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, and moonlighted as a goth student in two episodes of 90210 back in 2008.

If you’re unfamiliar, then let us get you up to speed: Doris was the ringleader of The Huge Crew, a female bullying group fond of intimidating everybody except Ned Bigby (played by Devon Werkheiser), whom they were fiercely devoted to.

The schoolgirl’s crush was so aggressive that she and her friends actually formed ‘Club Ned’ just to talk about him all the time. Obsessed much?

Anyways, it’s been 20 years since the star, who goes by the Instagram moniker @missrockdoll, last appeared as Doris, but she’s still getting paid via residual cheques.

As explained by the Los Angeles Times, residuals are payments a writer, actor, or director can earn when their work gets reused: for instance, if a movie featuring them airs on live television.

Stars can also get money via physical media sales, if their film pops up on flights, or finds a second life on streaming sites such as Netflix.

Former child actor Hyatt Tedmori is just one of the thousands who periodically receive residual checks - earlier this week, she got frank about how much money she makes from Ned’s Declassified in 2026.

“POV: You were on a TV show 20 years ago and a random envelope still shows up in your mailbox. Time to open my latest Ned’s Declassified residual checks,” she wrote via Instagram.

“Residual checks are one of those weird parts of being a child actor that people are always curious about, so I figured I’d open them with you. Who’s ready to find out if I’m buying coffee… or a yacht?”

Unfortunately for the podcaster, this time it was the former as she tore through around 15 envelopes containing the residual cheques.

After learning that she had received $0.02 for one episode, Hyatt Tedmori said: “I know, hard times, the economy is s**t but like, $0.02? Keep it. Just f****ing keep it. I don’t want it.”

The actress went on to open envelopes for $0.63, multiple for $0.03, $0.68, and $1.11, among others.

The envelope pile also included ‘surprise’ residuals for 90210, coming in at $21.43.

After opening all of the Ned’s Declassified documents, Hyatt Tedmori learned she’d earned $8.63 of passive income. With 90210, it brought her grand total to $30.06.

“Maybe I can go buy a coffee at Starbucks,” she joked, asking if she really ‘needed’ to report the earnings to the Internal Revenue Service.

“They’re not even going to give a f**k,” she mused. “I hope you all have a great day and I hope you earn more than $8.63.”

Hyatt Tedmori’s clip has been viewed more than 1.3 million times and has drawn thousands of comments from fans and celebrities alike, with comedian Brad Williams writing: “You’re buying the drinks next time we hang Miss Moneybags.”

Fellow Ned’s Declassified actress Lindsey Shaw wrote: “Absolutely infuriating. Like please start a fund with anything under a $1 that 90210 money though.”

Someone else said: “As an accountant, it gives me anxiety for the person who has to reconcile all the uncashed checks.”

Another commented: “I feel like they should send a lump sum at a certain amount not only would you get it all@at once it would save paper and postage.”

Donald Trump recieves residual cheques

Before he was President of the United States, Donald Trump made cameos in tons of TV shows, including Sex & the City, and films such as Zoolander and Little Rascals.

And just like Hyatt Tedmor, Trump recieves money every year in the form of residual checks - and exactly how much was revealed earlier this summer.

According to annual financial filings, a large portion of the residual cheques that Trump received were so tiny that, in his legal filings, they are listed as ‘de minimis’, meaning they range from one cent to $200.

His largest residual cheque outside of his payment from Amazon came in the form of a payment from ‘Entertainment Partners’.

This was not disclosed in its exact amount but ranged from $200-1000 for his appearances in Zoolander and Sex & the City.

Trump was also paid $10.7 million as part of the licensing agreement for the documentary Melania, which was among the most expensive ever made, as well as $521,000 for an accompanying memoir.

An additional payment between $250,000 and $500,000 was made from Amazon-MGM. It’s believed that this could be due to the company taking over the syndication of The Apprentice.
