Disappointing truth behind the breakfast table in The Traitors

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as well as being the best opportunity for contestants on The Traitors to have a tense showdown over some toast.

Viewers of the hit BBC reality show will be well aware of the fiery exchanges that take place first thing in the morning when participants find out who was murdered the night before.

And Brits have been hooked on the latest series, with more than 8 million people tuning in to each episode.

The Traitors has hit new heights on TV, but former contestants have been breaking the fourth wall by spilling all the secrets from behind the scenes.

The game show, which thrives on trickery and treachery, puts a group of people together in a 30-bedroom Highland castle located in Scotland who have to vote out, banish and deceive their competition in the hopes of winning the grand prize.

Although this is the site where the programme and all of its drama is filmed, it turns out that it's not actually where the players rest their heads at night.

Instead, they are hitting the hay in a £70-a-night airport hotel.

This revelation came from Scottish actor, Alan Cumming, who hosted the US version of the show, which is filmed in the same location as the UK's version - the Ardross Castle.

A former contestant made a shock revelation about the iconic breakfast scenes.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, he said: "They [the contestants] all stayed in the airport hotel in the Inverness airport. How glamorous – you come to Scotland, and you stay in the Inverness airport hotel!"

But avid watchers of The Traitors were even more disappointed when they found out the truth about the iconic breakfast scenes which are usually brimming with reality TV gold.

Former contestant John McManus, who starred in season one, has revealed another reason you might spot that people aren't stuffing their faces - and it's not because they are 'too nervous'.

He claimed that the contestants don't sit together for their morning meal - as they're already quite full.

The new series of The Traitors has gone down a treat with viewers.

Speaking to The Sun, the 51-year-old explained: "We get breakfast served to our rooms in the hotel, before the on-screen breakfast!

"There's security, your food's brought to your room, and the welfare team are brilliant, knocking on your door regularly to check you’re okay, but there's none of this mixing or hanging about."

He also alleged that participants can head to the bar after leaving the round table. However, they are only permitted a maximum of two drinks.

Former The Traitors contestant Ivan Brett, who also starred in the first series, also unveiled something about the breakfast scenes in a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

He wrote: "I'm sorry guys, it's time to come clean and leak something shocking about The Traitors. It pains me to tell you, but that breakfast is REALLY DRY AND NOT VERY NICE."

Ivan added: "Pastries going stale while you film everyone entering the room and having to say hello to fifteen people."
