We all have our favourite show that's a source of comfort, escapism or is simply just brilliant to watch.

Whether it's a star-studded cast that entices you or the thrilling storyline, getting the news that it's coming to an end is never easy - we kind of presume episodes are going to continue to be churned out forever.

But all good things must come to an end - including our beloved sitcoms, dramas and comedies.

Even though there might be several seasons for you to rewatch over and over, knowing that the characters stories will never evolve again is enough to shatter the hearts of dedicated TV fans.

Just ask anyone who tunes into What We Do in the Shadows - as even though the fifth season only premiered earlier this year, the sixth and final series has already been confirmed.

The FX' mockumentary comedy horror' show has garnered a legion of fans since it first hit screens in 2019 and people fell in love with watching the vampire roommates navigating nightlife in Staten Island, New York.

Some of the UK's favourite names in off-beat comedy - including Matt Berry (the guy with the voice, from The IT Crowd, Toast Of London and The Mighty Boosh), Kayvan Novak (Fonejacker, Facejacker and Three Lions) and Natasia Demetriou (writer for The Midnight Beast) - starred in the spooky yet side-splitting series.

Harvey Guillén, Mark Proksch, and Kristen Schaal also lent their acting talents to What We Do in the Shadows, which follows the lives of three traditional vampires, Nandor, Laszlo, and Nadja, and their human familiar Guillermo.

They are constantly clashing with the reality of life in modern times - they have been alive longer than most, after all - as well as battling other supernatural beings.

What We Do in the Shadows will wrap up after the sixth season.

Throw in a few internal arguments and a dangerous family ancestry and it's the recipe for the perfect show.

What We Do in the Shadows, based on the 2014 film of the same name, gained dozens of Emmy nominations over the years, including for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

In January, production on it's sixth series will begin - but it will be the last time that the gang of hilarious vampires get together, an FX source confirmed to Vulture.

Fans have been reacting to the sad news on social media, with many paying tribute to What We Do in the Shadows and dubbing it 'the best show on television'.

One said: "What We Do in the Shadows ending makes me sad. Utterly brilliant show."

Another wrote: "Just found out that What We Do in the Shadows season 6 will be it's last. And I'm f**king devastated."

A third commented: "What We Do in the Shadows being on it's last season is unforgivable."

A fourth added: "What We Do in the Shadows is the best show on television and if you are not watching it you are missing out. Consistent cackles during each episode without fail. Best cast. Best theme song. Best comedy on television hands down."

And a fifth chimed in: "What do you mean they canceled What We Do in the Shadows?!"
