Why I’m A Celeb campmates no longer have phone numbers on back of tops

The iconic jungle fashion is gone

For the longest time, the contestants on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! went around in fetching jungle wear with their names and a phone number written on the back of their tops.

It ended up becoming an iconic part of the show, and given some of the ordeals the campmates were put through there were times when you could only tell who was who by the names.

However, all things must change and for the past couple of years the celebrities have just worn their names on the back of the tops and the numbers have been ditched, which your humble writer personally thinks is a downgrade in the fashion department.

Then again, nobody ever accused me of having a good sense of fashion.

Anyhow, there's a very good reason for this change in attire and it's all to do with a change in the way you vote for celebrities.

Back in the day, you'd cast your I'm A Celeb votes by calling the numbers on the back of the shirts but the rise of new technology means that's no longer the case.

Instead, you just cast your vote by going on the show's official app and choosing from there, so the campmates don't have any number for you to call which they'd need to keep reminding you of.

Ant and Dec no longer have a bunch of numbers to rattle through when telling you who to vote for either, which makes their job a lot easier whenever they've got some votes to promote.

I'm A Celeb did away with phone voting last year, and when they did a show source told LADbible: "Over the years, the number of people voting by phone has declined, and it's become a very small proportion of votes cast.

"To simplify the message to our viewers, we have chosen to only have free online (via the app) voting this year."

It's not time to vote anyone out of the show just yet, we're still a few days away from the celebrities being booted off the show one by one until only the winner remains.

Since you can't vote by phone number any longer it'd be pointless to have them (ITV)

Something that's been a little more constant about I'm A Celeb is the camp's location, which barring a couple of years during the pandemic has been situated in Dungay Creek, New South Wales.

The first series of the show was filmed in a different spot but they've been in Dungay Creek for years now and have it set up how they like it.

That setup includes a canopy over parts of the camp so the stars and the campfire are protected from the rain, while it also means the filming equipment around the area is also shielded from the elements.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! airs nightly at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
