Parents Are Baffled Because Their Kids Are Talking Like Peppa Pig

Parents Are Baffled Because Their Kids Are Talking Like Peppa Pig

A plummy British accent, complete with snorting

Mums are being left baffled and slightly concerned because their children are starting to speak like popular cartoon animal Peppa Pig.

Yes, that means that they are affecting a ridiculous posh British accent and snorting like a farmyard animal at the end of their sentences.

Branded 'The Peppa Effect', it has been reported by mums on popular parenting website Romper. One mum said that her kid started calling her 'Mummy' in the style of the character and making 'oink' sounds when speaking after watching loads - perhaps too much - of the kids' show.

One person spoke out on Twitter about the strange phenomenon. They said: "My 3 yr old cousin has an English accent from watching Peppa Pig and i'm jealous."

Another said: "I was excited when my daughter started watching Peppa Pig because I thought she might pick up an adorable British accent, but all she's learned is to snort like a pig."

A third added: "Thanks to Peppa Pig my 2yo, who has never been outside of Washington, Oregon and California has a solid British accent."

Since this became a thing, loads of people have taken to the internet to express their amazement, annoyance, jealousy, and - in some cases - straight up disbelief at their transatlantic sounding kids.

I mean, it is a very strange thing to happen.

The actual voice of Peppa Pig is provided by 17-year-old Harley Bird. The young actress reportedly earns around £1,000 per hour for her troubles.

Last year, Bird appeared on This Morning to talk about her role in the show and accidentally slipped up and said that she spent her time 'just kind of snorting, doing some lines'.

I beg your pardon?

Seriously though, it must be a pretty sweet job providing the voice for an animated character that brings joy to so many kids. Bird says that she doesn't even get recognised that much, either. Let's hope they don't kill off Peppa Pig any time soon.

In fact, the only place that she's been found out is at Peppa Pig World (seriously, why would you even go?) where avid fans of the show identified her through her voice.

Bird said: "I went with my brother and my mum the other weekend and I mean I was on the dinosaur ride which is my favourite ride at the moment, but I was on the rides with my brother and everyone was giving me slightly odd looks 'why is there a 16-year-old riding a dinosaur?'."

Why indeed?
