After a troubling event in life, most people's first reaction is to dwell on their sadness at the hand that life has dealt them. And why not? Life can be pretty shitty sometimes, and it's okay to feel down.
However at some point its best to prepare yourself to get over that hump, whether that means learning a valuable life lesson or simply developing a sense of perspective.
A lot of people find ways of doing it, even if that means having to be a bit self-deprecating from time-to-time.
Lauren, a 21-year-old who lost her arm in a moped accident, is a perfect example of this.
"I was going pretty fast on a moped and lost control of it, and I hit the median in the road," Lauren told BuzzFeed News. "I flew off and hit a sign and it sliced my arm off. I stayed conscious the whole time."
Thankfully she was saved by a policeman who came to the scene. She had to get on with life, though of course it was hard for her at first.
People made jokes, which a lot of the time she wasn't okay with, but when she started making them herself she felt a lot better about it.

She told Buzzfeed: "I have never really hid it. People don't see that very often, so a lot of people DM me to tell me it's really helpful to them, people who are also missing limbs or are disabled."
Lauren hasn't really let it effect her, even on the dating front, which could have understandably been an area of anxiety for her.
In fact, she's got probably the best Tinder profile ever, which she uses "to address the elephant in the room that I was missing a limb."
"I got home pretty drunk, and I don't remember typing it up really," she said. "I just woke up to someone DM'ing me a Reddit post asking if it was me, and I was like damn, I guess it is."

She's claimed her job is an arms dealer and that she's "hands down the best catcher on Tinder."
She goes on to rate her features: "Face 10/10, body 9/10, personality 20/10, arms 1/2."
"People always respond like, 'Oh, I feel bad for laughing,'" she said. "And I'm like, 'No! I think it's funny...I made it!'"
