A new study has found which six traits that women have are more likely to catch men's attention on dating apps.

It's rough out there in the world of dating, with seemingly endless swiping on apps like Tinder still seeing limited results, or indeed coming across people who just aren't right for you whether you're looking for a relationship or something more short term.

According to a new study, there are some traits that women have on dating apps which make getting a match more likely.

Dating is very subjective and everyone has preferences with who they want to meet online.

But that doesn't mean that some preferences aren't more popular than others, and that's just what the study carried out by dating app Badoo has looked at, the Daily Mail reports.

These cover a whole range of things, some of which can be controlled and others which someone is just born with.

Of course, it's important to remember that we're beautiful just the way we are.

A nice smile

Getting a good profile picture is of course important, and it's perhaps a small surprise that this particular one comes up.

It's not just seeming friendly, but also research from Match Group suggesting that people think teeth are important.

Around 60 of men and 71 percent of women say that a nice smile is important to them when dating.

Nails

Not the kind that you use to hang a picture, the ones on the end of your fingers.

While it might not seem important, data in the study suggested that people do pay attention to nails.

This could be because nails are a good sign of someone's personal hygiene, and if someone has dirty, unkempt nails then that could be a bad sign.

Hair colour

It turns out in the study that brunettes are favoured more than blondes.

Badoo claimed that the share of messages that went to women with brown hair was 40 percent, while blondes got 15 percent.

Though it's also possible that this could be influenced by how many women have blonde or brown hair.

Height

Height preferences are a thing for many people when dating, including the running cliche about men who are five eleven saying they're actually six feet.

But it turns out when the boot is on the other foot, men prefer women who are of average height.

Badoo said that around 46 percent of men preferred women between five feet three and five feet six.

Eye colour

While you might assume that blue eyes would top this out, Badoo said their data indicated that brown eyes were actually more popular.

The dating app said that it was women with brown eyes who received the most messages.

Body type

In Badoo's data, they found that women with what they described as an 'average' body type got more messages.

This is of course a very wide definition, and could mean a wide variety of different things.

Nonetheless, this was the group with the most messages.
