Insane simulation shows what happens to your body if you drink superfood everyday to achieve 'internal shower’

An 'internal shower' sounds pretty grim, but hear us out on this one

If you've ever wondered what happens inside your body when you consume a drink referred to as an 'internal shower' then you're in the right place.

Granted, the thought of knocking back a liquid which causes your stomach and intestines to promptly expel their contents sounds like something straight out of a laxative-induced nightmare.

But bear with us on this one, as this potion contains a superfood which is widely accepted to do wonders for your body.

Made popular by TikTok, the 'internal shower' drink is made up of chia seeds, water and sometimes lemons or lemon juice. Once mixed with water, chia seeds form a gel-like substance when mixed with water and are beneficial to healthy digestion.

Pretty simple to make and includes ingredients which you can pick up for less than a fiver.

If that wasn't enough to sell you on the idea of an a DIY colonic, several of the internets brightest minds have produced several simulations depicting what your insides will look like when the chia seeds are flushing their way through your system.

In one simulation, which outlines various 'health' drinks touted on the internet, the chia seed mix is credited for flushing out the large intestine and 'eliminating' toxins. Meanwhile, another video says a chia seed drink will not only help with digestion but also reduce food cravings, improve sleep and support good bacteria in the gut.

But how accurate are these claims?

Health experts weigh in on the benefits of drinking chia seed water

Although the internet has a reputation for exaggerating health claims, it turns out there may be some truth about the power of chia seeds.

When it comes to the nutritional benefits of chia seeds, nutritionist Valentina Cartago told The Independent that 100g of the tiny seeds contain 17g protein and 34.4g fibre as well as nutrients such as magnesium, calcium and vitamin B3.

"Adding chia to your meals is an easy and quick way to increase their nutritional content," she added.

Meanwhile, dietician Lindsay Malone explained to Prevention that chia seeds can help with minimising blood sugar spikes, which in turn helps you keep sugar cravings in check.

The link between chia seeds and a good night of sleep is a little more murky, however, one doctor has claimed the superfood's tryptophan contents, an amino acid which helps with the production of serotonin and melatonin, can help with regulating sleep cycles.

The dense, gel-like consistency of the chia water can also help you feel fuller, meaning you're less likely to wake up with a rumbling stomach.

So, there you go. It certainly won't hurt to add a glass of chia seed water to your diet – just make sure you soak them first.
