Why you can't have sex after hair transplant as lad reveals shocking consequences to ignoring the strict rule

Even a quickie could have devastating effects

A lad learned things the hard way when he ignored a strict rule following his hair transplant.

Ruben Owen suffered some pretty shocking consequences when he dove back into the sack and had sex too soon.

Yep, sleeping with someone after having the procedure is particularly warned against - so you can’t be showing off your new look too excitedly.

The now 24-year-old had travelled over to Turkey in 2022 to get the hair transplant, offering to model for the clinic afterwards to strike a bit of a deal.

However, you can imagine they won’t have been using any of his post-sex snaps as he ended up with a puffy face and googling STI symptoms.

Ruben had been warned not to engage in high intensity activities, such as sex, following the procedure.

What happened to Ruben?

Ignoring that warning, he woke up the morning after sex to find his head had ‘blown up like a balloon’.

“Face puffed, scalp tight, and it looked like I’d been stung by 100 bees,” Ruben recalled.

“No joke, I thought I’d caught something. I was actually googling STI symptoms and panicking.”

But the lad soon realised it was his own fault for ‘going too hard too soon’.

“The left-hand side was bigger than anything to the point it didn't even look like I had been punched - it genuinely looked like my face was going to explode,” Ruben added.

Why you can’t have sex after a hair transplant

So, there’s actually a number of very serious reasons why you shouldn’t be s****ing after a hair transplant.

Clinics highly advise against any kin of ‘strenuous activity’ in the first few days.

A big part of this is down to getting sweaty, as sweat can irritate the scalp and potentially increase infection risk at the transplant risk.

Plus, activities like sex can cause an increase in blood pressure and heart rate which can therefore cause increased bleeding around the area.

And adding to things, any kind of friction or pressure during sex can make the fragile hair grafts move about or dislodge before they’ve had a chance to firmly implant themselves into the scalp.

So, even a quickie in the sheets could compromise how successfully your transplant is and potentially cause a risk to your health.

How long do you have to wait to have sex again?

The advice may vary from clinic to clinic so it’s best to check with whoever is doing your transplant for how long to wait.

Surgeons typically recommend avoiding sex for at least seven to 10 days after your procedure.

However, it’s said it’s ideal to wait two to three weeks before getting back to it.
