It can sometimes feel like energy bills just keep on increasing, as the cost-of-living crisis shows no sign of slowing down.

If you're one of the thousands of Brits looking for ways to keep warm this winter without breaking the bank, one woman has shared a genius cost-cutting hack which could slash your heating bills for the colder months.

The TikTok creator @crafternoons, spilled the beans on how to warm your house up for less by tackling pesky drafts.

What is the 'interiors hack' that can save on energy bills?

The tip in question? Thermal curtains.

"Hung just above the door, so it can still open, and here's the key bit, puddled," the TikToker explained, meaning that the curtains are long enough to 'pool' on the floor to cover the bottom of the door and the gap where any draught might come in.

The TikToker even revealed the exact curtains she'd used (Blinds2go's 'Ella Stripe' thermal curtains), adding: "I got 222cm drop so they would puddle! Hope this helps!"

If you want to try them for yourself, you'll want to look for thermal curtains, which are plusher and thicker with a specially-created lining to keep out cold draughts (they can be used on windows too, not just doors).

Much like thermal clothing, this extra layer can trap heat and prevent breezes from ramping up your bills.

What is the new energy price cap?

This tip has come at a good time, following the news that the energy price cap has risen from October 1.

Ogfem confirmed a 2.03% increase, which means many people's bills will go up to as much as £1,755 between October 1 and December 31.

According to Eco Experts, thermal curtains could cut the bills for a three-bedroom household by £327 per year.

Here's our pick of the best thermal curtains

Blinds2Go 'Ella Stripe' curtains

These neutral curtains look much more expensive than they are (they're 100% polyester but their textured weave make them look more like natural linen). They come in a range of muted colours to match your interiors style, from 'apple' to 'cappuccino. The best part? The thermal lining is completely free to add to your order. Run, don't walk!
