Brits can now jet to Japan for a seven-night holiday for only £99.

Each spring, visitors flock to the tourist mecca to feast their eyes on the cherry blossoms (known as sakura season), and it’s an incredible chance to see the East Asian country at its most impressive — but there's plenty more to do and see there too.

Wowcher is now offering trips to this bucket list location for the first time, with flights and accommodation included, all for under £100.

The once-in-a-lifetime trip includes seven nights at a three-star hotel.

There’s only a small window of opportunity to see the cherry blossoms in Japan, with the natural phenomenon peaking in April and May.

But that’s not the only reason to visit Japan this season. The country is renowned for its history, culture, and cuisine, and there's plenty to see and do.

Whether you’re up for hikes in its sprawling national parks (Shiretoko National Park is a must), sampling street food in Tokyo’s bustling streets, or a boat ride along Fushimi’s picturesque canals, there’s something for every traveller to get stuck into.

What to see and do in Tokyo

If you’re lucky enough to end up in the Japanese capital, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to see and do. Your first stop should be Shibuya, the famous crossing that’s pure chaos (in a good way) and buzzing with shops and bars. Be sure to visit the shopping hub Akihabara while you’re there, a haven for animé lovers and gamers with everything from arcades to novelty cafés.

A trip to Tokyo wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the ancient buddhist Sensō-ji temple in the Asakusa district, where you’ll also find plenty of traditional restaurants along the waterfront and izakaya bars tucked away in the back streets. Finally, back in the city centre you’ll want to take a stroll through the neon-list streets of Shinjuku and Harajuku; you can book night tours for both, when the city is at its most impressive.

Where to eat and drink in Japan

Just a quick scroll of TikTok and you’re sorted when it comes to recommendations on where to eat and drink during your time in Japan.

First up: brekkie. There's a lot of chatter on social media around Benitsuru in Tokyo, which is renowned for its fluffy soufflé pancakes. As for Kyoto, make sure to add local bakery Fiveran to your list, as it’s famed for its cream buns and flakey croissants.

When lunchtime rolls around, who knew Tokyo was the place to go for pizza? TikTok users say Italian-inspired restaurant, Savoy, is home to the ‘best pizza they’ve ever had’.

When it comes to katsudon, family-run restaurant Zuichi in Tokyo also comes up a lot. And for those of you visiting Hiroshima, Okonomimura is also famed for its okonomiyaki (savoury pancakes).

For those of you with a sweet tooth, head to Nakamura Tokichi (Tokyo) for matcha soft serve, whilst dessert spot Cremia also boasts rave reviews on TikTok, and can be found in different parts of Japan.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a food round-up without a shout-out to good old 7-Eleven.

The fine print

All hotel accommodation is three-star plus with flights departing from the UK’s leading airports in locations such as London, Manchester, and Edinburgh. There may be additional costs if you fly from a regional airport.

If you need to book annual leave, you can choose between a holiday during valid dates in May, September, October, November or December for £99.

If you're lucky enough to be sent to Japan, it's worth noting that you're not guaranteed a spot in Tokyo, although it is one of the locations on the list.

Direct flights from London to Tokyo are around 13h 50 mins; from Manchester you'll be looking at 16h+ with a stopover in Munich or Zurich; and from Dublin it's 16h+ with a likely stopover in Dubai.

For an additional bit of dosh (£129), you can travel during April or June. You can find a full list of terms and conditions here.
