It's no secret to anyone who owns a vehicle, but the cost of keeping one on the road has skyrocketed in 2026.
Petrol prices are the latest essential item to climb in price, and it reached the highest level since 2022 on Friday, July 31.
The RAC has reported the average price of a litre of fuel in the United Kingdom is now at 160.0p per litre.
That's the last thing any Brit needed given the country has already been in the throes of a cost of living crisis for years.

Two of the UK's biggest supermarkets are moving to offer at least some small relief by offering customers money savings on their fuel purchases.
Tesco and Asda offer money off fuel deals
Asda were the first to announce their money-saving deal on July 13, in time for the school holidays, and available in 321 participating stores.
If you spend £40 in one of the stores by Friday, July 31, then you will receive a 5p off per litre of fuel coupon. That can be used until August 7 on one fuel purchase at a participating Asda petrol station.

On that deal, you would save £1 for every £20 you spent filling up your motor.
Tesco, meanwhile, followed in Asda's footsteps with their own offer, which launched on July 30.
In their deal, you would have to spend £60 on a single in-store shop and have until August 16 to do it.
As a reward, you'll bag 5 per cent off a purchase of diesel or unleaded petrol, which could be worth up to 8p a litre, and is valid until August 23.
There is a catch, though, as the saving is capped at £10.
To get £10 off, you'd have to spend £200 on fuel and the offer is only available on a single purchase.
Any saving could come as a relief to drivers, though, as prices have gone up once again to record heights.

Why have petrol prices gone up again?
Who thought you'd ever have to know so much about the opening and closing status of the Straight of Hormuz?
Yet, Donald Trump kick-started a war between the USA and Iran in February and global oil prices have soared ever since.
Before the war began on February 28, the average price per litre in the UK stood at 132.8p.
Prices did dip slightly when the conflicting nations agreed to an initial ceasefire, but the resumption of hostilities and missile launches has seen it rise back up again.
Simon Williams, head of policy at RAC, told the Independent: “The outlook for fuel prices is pretty grim.
"It looks highly likely that a litre of petrol will surpass 160p on average tomorrow [Friday], which will be a new record since the United States-Iran conflict began.”

Not to feel left out, the price of diesel is also rising and is expected to hit 180p 'very soon.'
At those sky-high prices, it would cost £88 to fill a 55-litre family car with petrol and £99 with diesel, the RAC says.
It's the same old story of ever rising living costs in the UK.
It's little wonder a proposed scheme to allow 28–40-year-olds to take a year of their state pension, £12,548, early in one lump sum got so much traction.
Savvy savers have also been looking into getting as much free money as they can, especially by taking advantage of new customer switch offers given by banks.
