Some photographers end up searching their whole lives for that perfect image, but this amateur snapper from Canada has really gone and got himself the shot of a lifetime.

Steve Biro said he was overwhelmed when he managed to capture an incredible photograph of a bald eagle skimming the water of a pond - just as it stared directly down the lens of his camera.

In the pic, the eagle's reflection in the water below is perfectly symmetrical, making it one of the most satisfying images you'll see for ages.

Steve, 53, was taking photos at a nature reserve when bald eagle Bruce was released.

Hailing from Windsor in Ontario, the photographer said: "I was so excited when they brought Bruce out as the water was fairly calm and I knew I might get a decent reflection.

"I love getting reflections from a low vantage point and hoped to get a couple of decent pics of Bruce.

"He flew across the pond several times."

The nature reserve is the perfect place for photographers to get up close and personal with animals, in a way that they normally wouldn't get the chance to.

Steve took thousands of images of Bruce.

Steve continued: "He was flying close enough to my head to feel the breeze from his wings but I was determined to keep shooting.

"I have many wonderful images from the visit but I loved the symmetry of this one in particular and the way he is staring right through me and looking mean and powerful just blew me away."

Steve took up photography 10 years ago as a hobby and takes images of nature, landscapes, cities and more.

He was at the Canadian Raptor Conservancy in Ontario when he took the stunning photos two weeks ago - he took thousands of Bruce but this one in particular really stood out to him.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: "He's squared up perfectly, both wings are touching the water. That [photograph] was the one that struck me as as little more special than the others. But I still didn't even know how it would resonate with people.

"There's something about birds that to me is captivating. The way they hunt, the way they interact. Sometimes you'll see them do things. They'll be playful, just like children. It's amazing how you'll see aspects of humanity in birds - and in animals overall."

What an incredible shot - bravo, Steve.
