A car salesperson has offered up her advice for those looking for a new set of wheels, including why it's always best to come to the dealership on your own.

Buying a car can be a stressful and overwhelming process, especially if you don't know what you're looking for or you're starting from scratch.

And while you might think it's handy to call upon the advice of all of your family members by dragging them along while you go car shopping, apparently it's not a good idea.

Over on TikTok, car salesperson, Ash - who goes by @ashxautos - explained why it's best to bring along just one person, if you do need that extra bit of support.

Why should you go to car dealerships alone?

"Your family is literally ruining your car buying experience," said Ash.

"If you're worried about a car salesperson trying to pressure you into buying a car, wait until you bring four family members to the dealership, not pressuring you but telling you what they would do."

Ash went on to explain that car buying advice 'is not linear' and essentially, what works for one person might not work for another.

"Your dad would never lease a car because it's throwing away money. Meanwhile, leasing may be the very perfect option that fits you the best," she added.

"Your mum is telling you to get a Toyota at a Honda dealership because it's cheaper, but she doesn't know that you can buy a certified pre-owned that comes with seven years, 100,000 miles on a powertrain warranty.

"By no means am I telling you not to listen to your family, but I am telling you when it comes to financial decisions, make your own.

"Do your research, figure out what works for you and stop relying on people who don't pay your bills or make your money to make decisions that affect your future."

What do people think about the car advice?

People were divided about Ash's advice, with some agreeing, while others were sceptical.

One wrote: "The other day i have a family of 8!!!!!! LIKE WHY???? i said only 3 at my desk everyone else outside."

While another added: "I never bring anyone esp my family I don’t need them irritating me thinking they know everything... like get out."

And a third said: "Only bring people with car buying experience."

Others weren't convinced however, with another adding: "Always keep in mind y'all - the dealership only has their best interests in mind, not yours. Of course they don't want you to bring anyone that has experience."

While a second said: "'don't bring people who won't let you impulse buy'."

Why should you never test drive a car?

Ash also claimed that you should never test drive a car at a dealership.

“The only reason the dealership wants you to drive that car is so you can fall in love with it and take mental ownership," she said.

“They want you to form an emotional connection with the car so you’ll be so excited you’ll just say yes to whatever they say."
