If you're not a vegetarian or vegan, chances are you love fried chicken. Because, let's face it, fried chicken is delicious. Just writing the words 'fried chicken' makes us salivate and want to eat fried chicken. It's sort of like self-flagellation. Anyway, while all fried chicken is delicious, ask a connoisseur what the absolute best is and they'll probably point you in the direction of KFC's iconic Double Down.
For those in the dark, it's two pieces of KFC chicken that are basically used as burger buns with a filling of cheese and bacon. Which is as OTT and delicious as it sounds.
For years, though, the problem for anyone in the UK was that the Double Down was only available in America, and as delicious as it is it's not particularly cost-effective to fly all the way across the Atlantic ocean for a sandwich.
Back in October, however, the KFC Double Down finally made its way to these shores, and we were incredibly happy about that... That is until KFC so cruelly took it away from us again, and left us contemplating transatlantic flights to get our fix.
Well, no longer! It seems that KFC are bring the Double Down back to the UK next week. Yes. NEXT WEEK. And we're going to buy every single one of them.
As we reported back then, the Innovation Director of KFC UK & Ireland, Jack Hinchliffe, was almost as ecstatic at the news as we were.
"There's been so much excitement for the Double Down since it first launched to the US in 2010," he said. "It's sold out in every country that it's been released in.
"Fandom has gone wild over the past few years on social media, and we've even had reports of our customers taking things into their own hands by hacking the menu to create the sandwich."
There's no information yet as to whether the Double Down will be available forever - we can dream! - or if it's just another limited time promotion, but the fact is that it's coming our way again and we cannot bloody wait.
Let's just hope it doesn't coincide with another chicken shortage like the company had back in February. That was just ridiculous.
And if a chicken shortage ever coincides with a potentially limited window to get a Double Down, we're gonna be even more raging than last time...
