Scary Moment Diver Comes Face-To-Face With Giant Seven-Metre-Long Anaconda

A couple of divers out in a river in Brazil had a heart-stopping incident when they came face-to-face with a giant anaconda.

Fortunately for us, one of the divers managed to capture the moment on film - check it out:

Bartolomeo Bove and his friend Juca Ygarape were diving in the Formoso River in Brazil back in July 2019 when they ended up close with the largest snake in the world - a Green Anaconda. It's a massive 'nope' from me.

In the clip the huge reptile, which was around seven metres (23ft) in length and weighed about 90kg, can be seen lying on the riverbed as the divers get nearer.

The footage then cuts to the anaconda getting a little bit too close to the camera while flicking out its forked tongue.

The snake then appears to get bored of the divers and slithers away - but Bove decides to follow the creature to get some more footage.

Rather you than me, pal.

After all that, Bove's determination paid off and he managed to get some absolutely incredible footage of the creature.

The photographer explained that his clip shows how the huge snakes are misunderstood and that they're not the aggressive animals people may think they are - still, rather him than me.

Bove said: "The rivers and the bodies of water around the Bonito area are the only places in South America where anacondas can be found in crystal clear waters, and therefore diving with them is possible.

"As shown in the footage the anaconda swims calm and peaceful, completely indifferent to our presence - sometimes she comes closer, curious about my camera [and] licking the lens.

"The behaviour of the anaconda debunks the myth that it is an aggressive and violent creature that can endanger people's lives."

The Green Anaconda is the heaviest species of snake in the world - they can grow up to a staggering 8.43m (27ft) and weigh as much as 227kg (500lbs).

They kill by wrapping themselves around their prey, constricting victims' breathing with their powerful bodies.

They can also unhinge their jaws so they are able to swallow corpses larger than their own bodies.

And yet this man Bove and his pal didn't think twice of swimming right over to get the perfect shot. Fair play.
