A man has had to undergo emergency surgery after a spray can of Glade air freshener ended up getting stuck in his bottom - thanks to his wife, believe it or not.

The 40-year-old bloke had to be rushed to the Francisco Morscoso Puello Hospital in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, where he was operated on.

According to local media reports, the unnamed man's surgery took around two hours, and thankfully went without a hitch, with a hospital spokesperson telling reporters that the man is now stable and is recovered after the incident.

His wife reportedly claimed she had put the air freshener up her husband's bottom at his request, while they were having sex.

Medical specialists explained that introducing objects into the body for sexual gratification is a potentially dangerous practice that could affect both someone's health and their long-term sex life.

They also warned it could cause haemorrhaging, intestinal damage or other injuries.

A doctor told local media it's not particularly common to talk about such incidents in hospitals, as it often causes embarrassment - and in turn lead to fewer people coming forward with their sex-related injuries for treatment, especially when the incidents involve women.

But according to the hospital spokesperson, that's not to say similar cases are not common - but typically, they involve sex toys.

However, they added that some people have been admitted with trapped wooden and plastic objects, as well as vegetables such as aubergines.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which releases an annual database of emergency room visits, last year people of the United States were sticking all kinds of things inside themselves.

One person said they 'jumped on bed - toothbrush was on bed and went up patient's rectum', while another unfortunate patient claimed they 'sat down on the sofa and accidentally sat on a ball point pen, pen lodges in rectum'.

Somone else 'pushed drugs up rectum using a lighter' and they were 'able to retrieve the drugs bag yet believe lighter got stuck'. Ouch.

And it gets worse: the report also said one person had a 'vibrator in rectum and tried to remove it with screwdriver and lacerated rectum; object in colon now'. Just no. No.
