A couple tied the knot in front of the groom's deceased father - on the same day as his late dad's funeral.

Despite the tragic circumstances, the couple, from Indonesia, still wanted the groom's father to be part of their nuptials just as he had always wanted to be.

As a result, they organised their big day to coincide with the man's funeral when they got married in the city of Samarinda in the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan on 11 July.

According to reports, Romadhoni Putra Pratama and his wife-to-be had originally decided to postpone their wedding because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, after the groom's dad died of a sudden heart attack while playing sport, they chose instead to go ahead with it.

Romadhoni said he wanted the wedding to coincide with the funeral as it meant his dad could still be there 'in spirit'.

He said it was important that his father was there when he got married to give his blessing.

Romadhoni said: "Although Dad passed away, I still believe that his spirit is here in this room to bless the auspicious ceremony.

"Even though it's only his soul, I am confident that my father was still around and able to see me marry my wife."

Local religious affairs head Muhammad Arga Raditiya added: "Romadhoni had always wanted his father to witness the marriage, which was why the couple decided to get married on the same day the father passed away."

The family combined the man's funeral with the couple's wedding.

Earlier this year, a groom in India tragically died and at least 95 guests have tested positive for Covid-19 after his family persuaded him to go ahead with the wedding despite displaying coronavirus-like symptoms.

Health bosses say the 30-year-old software engineer had complained of a fever prior to the ceremony, but his family said to take paracetamol to get through the wedding.

The groom's death cannot be firmly linked to coronavirus, as his body was cremated before it was tested. His bride has tested negative for the virus.

According to Indian news outlet First Post, health department officials said that 15 of the man's relatives who attended the wedding tested positive. After contact tracing and testing more than 350 people, at least 95 tested positive.

The groom, who was based in Gurugram, a city just south west of New Delhi, had returned back to his hometown, a rural village in Patna district, Bihar, in eastern India for the wedding.
