Peroni Named The Greatest Lager Of All Time On National Beer Day

The only question is which beer do you go for? After all, a person's preferred hoppy beverage says a lot about them.

Well, to celebrate National Beer Day, we asked the people (LAD's Twitter followers) which is the best beer of all.

And it was a tasty affair, with some big hitters, such as Kronenbourg and Estrella making an early exit.

In a tense quarter-final, San Miguel wiped the floor with the traditional staples of Carling, Stella and Fosters, while Peroni went up against the likes Corona, Amstel and Carlsberg.

In the semis, San Miguel narrowly pipped Birra Moreti to the post, claiming 54 percent of the vote.

The second semi, on the other hand, was much more of a one-sided affair, with Peroni taking 73 percent of the vote to Heineken's 27.

Then it came to the final, and quite frankly, it wasn't even close. More than 11,500 of you voted for the Italian tipple while just 6,501 put their neck on the line for San Miguel.

And it's not that surprising, I guess. What better way is there to celebrate a bloody stonking quarter than an afternoon down the boozer with the lads, the ruggers and a thirst-quenching gulp of the Mediterranean?

But not everyone was too pleased with the results - with many voicing their disappointment on Twitter.

"How this isn't Stella vs Red Stripe is a travesty.....the games fucking gone I tell ya!!!!" asked one angry beer lover.

"Ya'll know it's either Becks Vier, Budvar or Budweiser right?" wrote another.

A third disappointed follower said: "What does everybody like about peroni?? Tastes like bog water."

While a fourth critic put: "How the fuck has San Miguel ended up in a final for best anything."

However, like it or not, this is democracy in action. The people have spoken, and as we know, they can be very unpredictable.

But it's not the end of the world, no one is coming to take your Stella and Amstel away; you can enjoy them to your heart's content. And that's something we can all be thankful for.
