A paedophile who continually raped a seven-year-old boy has been stripped of his British citizenship and faces deportation to India, in what is believed to be the first case of its kind in UK law.

The man, who can only be identified as RSD, travelled to the UK from India back in 1997 and was granted British citizenship in 2004. But in 2011 he was convicted of 23 counts of sexual abuse against a male child that occurred between 2003 and 2010.

At the time, the court sentenced him to 14 years in prison and put him on the sex offenders' register for life.

However, as reported by The Telegraph, the Home Secretary took the decision to remove his citizenship on the grounds that when he applied to be a UK national he lied about the fact that he was sexually abusing a child.

The man appealed the decision, but a senior judge sided with the government and has stripped him of his British passport. Now he faces deportation.

Yesterday evening, child abuse lawyers praised the ruling, including Richard Scorer - a specialist abuse lawyer at law firm Slater & Gordon - who told the Telegraph: "This decision is to be welcomed as a statement of the seriousness with which grooming is viewed by the courts.

"Any court decision which highlights and reinforces the penalties for this kind of (sic) will help to send out the message that perpetrators will face serious consequences."

Earlier this month, Judge Pitt of the Upper Tribunal of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber, who backed the Home Secretary's decision, said in a judgement: "It is my conclusion that the appellant obtained naturalisation in 2004 by deliberately concealing material facts."

The case was dealt with by former Home Secretary Amber Rudd before Sajid Javid took over her role.

She told RSD back in February: "Given the fact that you began your sexual offences in 2003, prior to lodging your naturalisation application, and continued to do so many years after you were granted British citizenship, you were clearly not of good character.

"It was only because you concealed your sexual assaults that led to your application succeeding."
