Police are reportedly investigating new information brought to them by a clairvoyant who claims Madeleine McCann's body is in a forest six miles from where she went missing in Portugal.

Michael Schneider - who has successfully located a number of missing people - passed on the exact co-ordinates of the area he believes cops will find her.

While many people might be sceptical about the clairvoyant's claims, it seems Hans Christian Wolters, the German prosecutor investigating Madeleine's disappearance, is not.

He confirmed to the Sunday People his officers have previously used clairvoyants and, in some cases, received specific information.

Mr Schneider explained he believes the youngster - who went missing on 3 May 2007 - is buried in a forest six miles from the Portuguese holiday resort where she went missing in Praia da Luz on the Algarve.

Former TV reporter Mr Schneider told the Mirror: "I do not give out such information lightly and without constantly questioning myself because I am very well aware of the responsibility of what I do."

According to reports, last month the 50-year-old clairvoyant helped solve the case of a woman who went missing in Germany. Cops found her body 36 hours after he gave them her location.

He was also right with his location when it came to discovering the bodies of murdered couple Peter Neumair, 63, and Laura Perselli, 68, who went missing from their home in Bolzano in Italy in January.

When it came to making contact with German investigators, Schneider contacted the BKA which is the German equivalent of the FBI.

They reportedly responded telling him: "Your information will be appropriately incorporated into our work."

German prosecutors have been dealing with the case since a man known as Christian Brueckner became the prime suspect in the case. He is currently serving a seven-year sentence for rape.

Speaking about the BKA, Mr Schneider said: "I am happy that the BKA seem to be taking me seriously.

"Often you have a reputation as a freak or someone just trying to squeeze money out of someone, and this is quite hurtful. I never take money."

LADbible has contacted the BKA for a comment but, speaking to the Mirror, Mr Wolters said: "Several psychics have responded to our call for help in the past year and offered assistance.

"In some cases, we also received concrete tips. We do not ignore them, but we are cautious."
