MAGA supporters have slammed US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania’s reception in Britain as ‘disgusting’ as a vital element of their greeting was seemingly left out.
On Tuesday night (September 16), the 79-year-old stepped off Air Force One hand-in-hand with Melania, 55, at London Stansted Airport, ready for their unprecedented state visit at the invitation of King Charles III.
This is the first time in history that a world leader has received the honour of a second state visit to the UK, with his predecessors Barack Obama and Joe Biden only being granted one each.
Before heading off into central London yesterday, Trump and Melania disembarked from their plane while putting on a ‘rare’ display of public affection.

While some social media users have focused their attentions on the ‘unusual’ grip the mother-of-one had on her husband’s hand, others have taken aim at British powers for failing to put a red carpet down on the Stansted tarmac.

“No red carpet treatment for Trump as he arrives into the UK on Airforce 1,” one Twitter user wrote. “Whatever you may think of Trump, this just is not protocol and an insult.”
Another typed: “The disrespect of the British government towards our great President continues: President Trump landed in London last night with the First Lady.
“No red carpet was rolled out. The British Prime Minister did not come to greet him. Just disgusting.”

Sir Keir Starmer’s absence comes after he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the Stansted tarmac in July 2025 ahead of their meeting in Downing Street.
Rolling out the red carpet to honour monarchs and heads of state is a common practice dating back to Aeschylus’ Orestia.
In the first tragedy of the Greek trilogy, Agamemnon, a red carpet is put out by the titular character’s wife, Clytemnestra, to symbolise honour and the return of royalty.
Last month, Trump welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin to Alaska with a red carpet.
You’re also likely to see it nowadays at fancy film festivals and Hollywood events.

After exiting Air Force One last night, the businessman and his wife were greeted by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
Warren Stephens, the US Ambassador to the UK, and Vicount Hood, Lord-in-Waiting, were there too, along with a plethora of soldiers.
The pair then piled into the Marine One helicopter and flew to Stephen's abode, Winfield House, a sprawling mansion set within London’s Regent’s Park.
Today (September 17), Trump is at Windsor Castle, with snaps already released of him meeting William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

He and Melania have also reacquainted with Charles and Queen Camilla, who was reported as having recovered from the illness that stopped her from attending the funeral of the Duchess of Kent on Tuesday.
The six are taking part in a carriage procession through the Windsor estate.
The parade route is lined by members of the Armed Forces, with three military bands from the Royal Marines, the Army and the RAF.
Trump, accompanied by Charles, will later inspect the Guard of Honour at Windsor Castle before visiting Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb.
The Independent stated that a flypast by the Red Arrows and UK and US F-35 military jets will be viewed from the east lawn at Windsor Castle before a special beating retreat military ceremony.
This evening, Trump and Charles will give speeches at a glittering, traditional grand state banquet.
Tomorrow, the 47th POTUS will meet with Starmer and his wife, Lady Victoria, at Chequers.
Their bilateral meeting is on the cards, as well as a business reception hosted by the Chancellor.
While her husband is with the UK Prime Minister, Melania will look at Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House and the Royal Library at Windsor Castle before meeting Kate in the Frogmore Gardens.
