Alex Yee responds to fan after winning celebration leaves rival fuming and viewers split

Alex Yee beat Hayden Wilde once again in a victory eerily similar to that seen at the 2024 Paris Olympics

British triathlete Alex Yee has spoken out after his latest victory celebration went viral, splitting viewers and enraging his opponent,

Yee, who won gold in the men's individual triathlon at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was back at the top of the podium this weekend after a last minute victory over one of his fierce rivals, New Zealand's Hayden Wilde.

Just before heading on to the final stretch of the running segment of the race, Yee overtook Wilde, pipping the Kiwi to the top spot.

It was an almost carbon copy moment from the Paris Games where the 26-year-old Londoner produced a similar last minute snatch and grab for gold on the final section of the running route.

The race in question was the Boston supertri; the first of five supertri events around the world, with the finale set to be held in Neom in Saudi Arabia.

In a somewhat controversial move, Yee celebrated the victory in the US before he'd crossed the line.

With Wilde doing his absolute best to try and get back in front of the Brit, Yee carried out a celebration that some described as 'ice cold'.

Others, including Wilde, weren't as happy with his actions, however.

While crossing the line in first place, Yee folded his arms and stared into the lens of the camera in an emotionless reaction eerily similar to Kylian Mbappe's celebration when scoring for France or Real Madrid.

Wilde appeared to be pretty annoyed and could be seen reacting to Yee, holding up his arms and frowning in disgust at the celebration.

When he came up short at the Olympics, the first thing he did after finishing was go to Yee to congratulate him on the win - Wilde even put a friendly arm around his shoulder.

Fans were a little divided over on X (formerly Twitter), with Yee himself getting involved in the chatter.

One user named Paul wrote: "No wonder the guy in second has the hump. Zero class. Absolute tool.

"I think he’s the best in the world but isn’t a Brownlee so he’s trying to create some kind of persona and it’s a bit sh*t."

Yee took it upon himself to reply, writing: "No celebration next time apologies Paul."

While others thought the celebration from Yee was something he should do more, writing: "Alex Yee is one of the quietest, reserved athletes. He’s very respectful to everyone. That’ll never change!

"There’s nothing wrong with this and it’s nice to see a different side to him… more confident. Brilliant, Alex! Keep it up!"

Another posted: "Who would have guessed Olympic gold medalist triathlete Alex Yee was cold as ice."

And a third added: "Alex Yee living rent free in Hayden's head."
