In an extraordinary moment, one darts player ended up hitting the infamous ‘Ally Pally wasp’.
Oh yes LADs, while this time of year might mean Christmas markets and nativity plays for some, it’s the annual pilgrimage to the World Darts Championship for others.
Up on a hill in North London, fans don their fancy dress costumes to down a few pints and cheer on the players.
And sure, while getting to see some of the best darts players in the world is arguably the main attraction, so is all the niche little bits of fun and tradition, such as the pesky Ally Pally wasp.

The little thing has caused a stir at the matches over recent years and even in the opening days of 2025’s event, it’s already ended up going viral.

The Ally Pally wasp
The insect had already gone after the defending world champ and ultimate LAD, Luke Littler, during his post-match interview on stage after his first-round win over Darius Labanauskas on Thursday (11 December).
The 18-year-old was having to uncomfortably duck and dive before being able to carry on.
And then when Ross Smith faced Andreas Harrysson the next day, he was said to be seemingly oblivious to the fact that the Ally Pally wasp was at his neck, buzzing around on-stage.
I mean, we’re assuming it is the same wasp every time but like, isn’t that the fun of it?
Anyway, Rob Cross also didn’t appear to notice the thing when it chilled on his shoulder during an interview, with Ted Evetts also having a run-in with it.
During his loss to the world No.2, Luke Humphries, the Englishman flicked it off his chest – even waving goodbye to the wasp as it fell.
But when the wasp met Nitin Kumar, its fate was a little less friendly.
Struck by Nitin Kumar
Kumar was facing Richard Veenstra in the first rounds of the darts competition yesterday (14 December) when the wasp made its way back onto the stage.
But it just got a little too close to the action and the commentators noticed: “Oh, not the wasp, not in leg two.”
However, as Kumar threw his dart, it struck the wasp mid-flight with the cameras catching the exact moment.
“The wasp has had more screen time than Littler!” fans joked, as others said there’s ‘only one winner this year’ and it’s the Ally Pally wasp.
Things worked out pretty well for Kumar though, regardless of the wasp’s interjection as he made history and became the first Indian player to win a match at Ally Pally.
