Why Tyson Fury's dad John will not be in his corner for Usyk rematch

It's a big change ahead of the Gypsy King's big fight

Whenever one of the Fury brothers fight, there always seems to be another big Fury getting involved – usually in a fight too, let’s be honest.

John Fury is the dad of both Tyson and Tommy Fury, and typically plays a part in their entourage for boxing bouts.

But ahead of the Gypsy King’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk tomorrow (21 December), the decision has been made for the fighting father to not be in his corner.

With a dispute currently taking place after one of the boxing judges fell ill, the pair are set to re-enter the ring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at around 10:55pm on Saturday.

Often causing a bit of chaos in the run-up to bouts, John even faced some backlash from fans following Tyson’s loss to Usyk back in May.

Fans online wrote that the boxing dad was ‘contradicting the head coach’ with his shout-ins from the corner. And before that initial bout, John was seen with a bloodied face after allegedly head-butting someone from the other camp.

However, it seems he’s not going to have quite as much involvement this time, with Tyson appearing dismissive when asked about his potential involvement.

“I don't know. I don't get involved in all that s***e," he said, per The Sun. "I just go to the gym, train and fight, get paid, go home. That's what I have always done."

Having not been spotted in Saudi this time round, Tyson’s trainer SugarHill Steward confirmed John is not joining the entourage ahead of the fight.

"Tyson Fury is just ready right now, along with myself. He has always had a silly demeanour and playing around but this is a different side of him. he is 100 per cent ready," he said after the open workouts on Wednesday.

When pushed on who will be in the corner, he added: "Just myself, Andy Lee and the cutman, pretty much that's it."

He also provided an insight into how the Gypsy King has been preparing himself ahead of this big rematch.

Steward said: “It's just how we normally train, I was taught by Emmanuel Steward. It's always about hurting somebody, pain and knockouts. It was written on the walls of the Kronk gym.

“The harder you work the bigger the rewards. Everything that is boxing, that's what he's bringing on Saturday, that's what his mind is geared towards."
