Apple announces when Vision Pro will be available in UK and there's not long to wait

It's coming to the UK, but will you see many people with that on their head?

Apple's new Vision Pro headset is due to be released in the UK soon, as the tech company decided to announce the release date and a starting price at their annual developer conference WWDC.

Thus far the Vision Pro has been available only in the US, but pretty soon it'll be on sale in the UK, France, Germany, Australia, Canada, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Singapore.

In case you've missed it, Apple Vision Pro is a wearable computer headset which sticks apps and software in front of your eyes which you control with your hands, eyes and voice.

Americans who've got their hands on this stuff have been demonstrating how it works, and it's not exactly an inconspicuous device to be wearing on your noggin.

Others have warned that they experienced the device having a distorting effect on your vision, as you're seeing the world through Apple's augmented reality display.

While it's been available first in the US, and they've been the ones figuring out the early problems with it, Apple announced at WWDC that they would soon be rolling Vision Pro out to many other countries.

The release date for it to go on sale in the UK is 12 July, and the starting price is set to be £3,499, while the original price it went for in the US was $3,499.

Apple claims they've designed the headset for a more immersive experience in entertainment and gaming, while saying it could also be used to work with other people.

They're not the only tech company working on headsets, as Meta's own Quest gadget is also on the market.

For all that dosh you're buying a very technologically advanced contraption, but do remember that wearable technology usually takes a while to get small enough not to look ridiculous.

“The enthusiasm for Apple Vision Pro has been extraordinary, and we are thrilled to introduce the magic of spatial computing to more customers around the world,” Apple chief executive Tim Cook said.

“We can’t wait for more people to see the impossible become possible, whether working and collaborating with an infinite canvas for apps, reliving treasured memories in three dimensions, watching TV shows and movies in a one-of-a-kind personal cinema, or enjoying brand-new spatial experiences that defy imagination.”

Since launching in the US in February, Apple says more than 2,000 apps have launched for the Vision Pro, while 1.5 million iPhone and iPad apps are also compatible with the headset.
