It's that time of year again... Apple has officially announced the launch of the iPhone 15 with a brand-new set of features.

The phone will mark the latest generation of a device which changed the smartphone scene forever when it first rocked the world back in 2007.

This latest model of the iPhone has been described by experts as the 'biggest update to the device in three years', with Apple announcing it in true Apple style.

Boss Tim Cook took to the stage today (12 September) to explain what we can all expect from the iPhone 15 series.

The new model will be available in five different colours.

And as is the case with any new model, all the talk is about the new features on offer to Apple users. Well, and the hefty price tag, of course.

There was plenty of talk about screen brightness and the larger screen display so there's more things to occupy your eyes while the phone sits in your hand.

Apple also claims its screens are now tougher than ever, so you shouldn't have any problems if you drop your new device.

The new models will be available later this month.

The iPhone's camera has had a makeover, too - with the photo app now able to automatically detect if someone is in the picture you're trying to take and switch over to portrait mode.

It was also announced that the new models will have a mode where you can filter out background noise and have the microphone just focus on what you're saying.

But perhaps one of the more exciting announcements coming out today is a new feature Apple fans have been waiting a while for.

Apple's newest models will have a USB-C charging cable point.

At the moment, iPhones rely on a proprietary lightning cable, with most other devices - including others made by Apple - opting for a USB-C cable instead.

The new decision follows EU law which has declared that all portable devices need to be compatible with a universal charger by December 2024.

The law is aimed to combat e-waste by bringing about a common standard for chargers.

The iPhone 15 starts at $799 and the iPhone 15 Plus is $899, which is actually the same price of last year's models in the States.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were also announced during the event today, boasting an A17 Pro chip.

Price-wise, the iPhone 15 Pro will set you back $999, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max costing $1,199.

It won't be long until folks can get their hands on the latest offering, as they are available to buy on 22 September.
