Driver confused over 'mystery' button in new car as motorists warn him not to press it

He turned to Reddit after being left baffled by the feature in his new vehicle

There's nothing quite like rolling around in your new car for the first time - until you realise you're not exactly sure how anything works.

Say what you want about old bangers, but you can't deny that their lack of sophistication makes them a whole lot simpler to use.

Modern motors come with loads of fancy features that can often leave people confused if they haven't read the manual thoroughly enough.

However, this bloke says he read it front to back and scoured the internet but was still stumped about the purpose of a 'mystery' button in his new whip.

So, he did what any other logical person would do and took his dilemma to Reddit.

The motorist wrote in the post: "Just bought a new car! What does this button do? Could not find anything on the internet."

He also attached an image of the aforementioned mystery button, hoping that other drivers might be able to decipher what the symbol on it meant.

It was emblazoned with the design of a car which had what appeared to be signals radiating from it, while the words 'OFF' sat underneath the illustration.

I'm sure you can see how this could perplex someone who isn't fluent in car lingo.

It seems a few people have been baffled by the weird button in recent years, as several other drivers have also enquired about it in online forums.

But thankfully, a host of social media users came to the rescue and revealed they had encountered the mystery button before.

Others were obviously just in the Reddit thread for the sh*ts and giggles, so instead decided to share their wackiest theories about what it might be for.

One wrote: "It microwaves all the occupants in an emergency," while another joked: "It makes the car into a WiFi router."

And a third suggested: "Ejector seat!|

Some just seemed intent on scaring the living daylights out of the driver, as one person ominously commented: "Do NOT press that button."

"Disables all electric signals effectively disabling the car," another laughed.

Still, there were also some useful answers in the Reddit thread too.

One person commented: "Ultrasonic alarm sensor off button. Useful if you plan on sleeping in your car."

Another chimed in: "It saves your doggo setting off the alarm whilst you quickly pop into the shops."

Someone else then added: "Looks like an interior alarm, you can push that if someone is still in the car and don’t want the alarm go off."

So there you have it - motorists can use the button in select circumstances to avoid their errand being interrupted by the car alarm blaring - but make sure you turn the alarm sensors back on after you've done, otherwise you're stripping your vehicle of a security layer.

The Reddit user was buzzing that he had finally got to the bottom of the mystery and wrote: "Thank you guys, you are amazing!"

According to Spanish car manufacturer SEAT, ultrasonic interior monitors protect your vehicle's doors, boot, engine compartment and car interior.

If someone attempts to gain unauthorised access, for example through a broken window, it will trigger the security system.
