Tesla Cybertruck goes head to head with Lamborghini in street race with one clear winner

A video of the infamous Tesla Cybertruck lining up against a Lamborghini supercar for a drag race has done the rounds online.

Street races were all the craze about 20 years ago, around the time Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift came out in cinemas, but we've come a long way from modified street cars adorned with stickers and neon under-glow lights.

As entertaining as street racing culture was, it's very much a thing of the past, shrouded with nostalgia any time we look back on it.

But this doesn't mean that the prospect of a drag race is any less enticing to watch.

Now, a 37-second video of two very fast cars has done the rounds on social media, with the result so unexpected that Tesla boss Elon Musk reposted the clip.

The Tesla Cybertruck has made headlines in the past couple of years following its release in November 2023, specifically around its shockingly affordable costs to run, compared to a petrol-powered car.

Despite its questionable exterior, it proves to be far more efficient and easier on the bank account after forking out $60,000 to purchase the truck - which sadly still isn't legal for road use here in the UK.

This doesn't take away from its opponent in the viral video, a Lamborghini Aventador - one of the most striking, loud, outrageous supercars on the market.

As the two line up on the public road, the roar from the Lambo's 6.5 litre V12 engine can be heard as the car builds up the revs in the viral clip.

The electric-powered Cybertruck stays silent as it takes off, while the Lamborghini screeches off the line.

But in yet another case of noise not equalling speed in the motoring world, the Tesla raced into the lead, and managed to reach the next traffic light before the Italian manufactured Aventador, which likely would have cost anywhere between $420,000 and $570,000.

Silent but deadly - the Cybertruck crushed the Lambo in a win that it can thank electric power for, as a POV angle from inside the petrol-powered car showed just how far ahead the Tesla was.

For reference, the truck's top model goes from zero to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds at its peak, while its opponent takes 2.9 seconds.

Essentially, Tesla vehicles have the ability to accelerate quickly due to a number of factors.

Its electric motors deliver the maximum amount of torque from a standstill, while internal combustion engines need to build up the power.

The high-capacity batteries and motor control systems on the Tesla also help to deliver the highest amount of power to the wheels, as the Cybertruck's all-wheel drive also gives it an impressive amount of traction.

In the video, we can also see that the Lamborghini has a semi-automatic gearbox, operated via flappy paddles on the back of the steering wheel.

It could mean that the driver could have timed his start poorly, affecting the result and giving the Tesla the upper hand.

Either way, paying less than a sixth of the price of the Lambo for the Cybertruck and being able to win a drag race is still impressive.
