Should Homer be in charge of the next Wonka-inspired event?

The Simpsons has done it again. In what’s been a big week already in viral UK bizarreness, the cartoon has somehow managed to get involved.

It’s no secret that the show seems to eerily predict the future – from the UK’s cost of living crisis to a certain fish dish and from Donald Trump as US president to Lady Gaga flying into a stadium, just like she did at the Super Bowl.

And now fans reckon The Simpsons predicted the ‘shambles’ Willy Wonka-inspired event that ended up involving the police last weekend.

It’d be pretty impressive if you hadn’t heard about this wild experience in Glasgow by now, with all kinds of bizarre videos and images going viral on social media.

Parents were left fuming and kids ‘left crying’ after showing up to a House of Illuminati experience where they expected a ‘chocolate fantasy like never before’.

However, even one of the actors told LADbible it was a ‘monstrosity’ as another said it was ‘heart-breaking’ to see how upset children were over it all.

And users on X have managed to draw parallels between this experience and The Simpsons.

One user wrote on X: “The Simpsons did it again,” as they shared images from different episodes of the show alongside some of the viral snaps.

As well as a photo of a sad-looking Oompa Loompa with a snap of one of the actors, they included images from ‘Homerland’.

And it’s not hard to see how this relates to the Wonka-inspired event, with its sparse warehouse-like space, bouncy castle and random props.

The comparisons come from an episode in season five of the show, called ‘Bart’s Inner Child’, where Homer dreams of his ‘Homerland’.

He decides to buy the family a trampoline, explaining to Marge he want to open a play park for the kids in their back garden.

Except it’s a bit of a stretch of the imagination – his ‘Trampoline World’ features just one trampoline for four kids, ‘Muckville USA’ is just a big puddle of mud and ‘Fort Adventure’ is a pile of grubby, used mattresses.

Oh, and he plans to charge a whopping $50 for entry.

Fans on X joked ‘Homerland’ is ‘still more fun than the Willie Wonka experience’ as another put: “Homer prepping to take over the Glasgow Willy Wonka experience.”

As one simply said: “The Simpsons predicted the Willy Wonka immersive experience.”

I mean, at least with the Wonka-inspired event the kids got their little cup of fizzy drink – that’s better than splashing in mud. Surely.
