Prosecutors have released new footage of the man accused of trying to assassinate President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
Suspect Cole Tomas Allen, 31, who authorities say was armed with guns and knives, attempted to storm into the 2,500-person ballroom at the Washington Hilton last Saturday (25 April).
The 31-year-old, claiming to be a 'mechanical engineer and computer scientist' from Torrance, California, ran through security with a long gun toward the hall, the video shows.
Jeanine Pirro, the US attorney for Washington, wrote on alongside the clip shared on X: "Today, we are releasing video already provided to US District Court showing Cole Allen shoot a US Secret Service officer during his attempt to assassinate the President at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner."

Chilling detail
Reacting to the video online, many users were concerned by what looked like dangerous crossfire and wondered where the bullets actually went.
"Actually, three firearm discharges were caught on this video. Where did these bullets go?" one viewer wrote.
"Bro missed every shot and almost hit the Secret Service."
A second added: "He missed point blank range and almost shot his own ppl smh."
It comes after prosecutors claimed that one of the security agents - whose five shots missed Allen - was shot in their bullet-proof vest during the incident, but had not confirmed it was Allen who hit him.

Pirro has now claimed that 'there is no evidence the shooting was the result of friendly fire'.
Allen was injured and was not shot during the incident. He remains in jail while awaiting trial on charges of attempting to assassinate the President of the United States, using a firearm during a crime of violence and transportation of firearm in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony.
In court papers calling for Allen’s continued detention, prosecutors revealed that the suspect took a picture of himself in his hotel room just minutes before the incident, and that he was outfitted with an ammunition bag, a shoulder gun holster and a sheathed knife.

What has Donald Trump said?
In a press conference after the shooting, Trump said: “My impression is he was a lone wolf whack job. These are crazy people.
“I saw a room that was just totally unified. It was, in one way, very beautiful, a very beautiful thing.
“To see a man charge a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of secret service, and they acted very quickly.
“It is always shocking when something like this happens.”
