A Tesla saved its owners life after it captured a man wielding a knife. Watch the terrifying incident below:

A driver going by the name of Cedric, from Richmond, Virginia, US, posted a clip on his TikTok account last week after experiencing a worrying encounter with an armed man.

In the video shared to his page, a masked man can be seen approaching his car, walking past the front and round to the driver's side door.

Cedric explains in the post that he was about to step out of his motor, when he spotted on the car's camera that the stranger was holding a sharp blade in his left hand, seemingly trying to hide it from view.

Fortunately, Cedric stayed put and the man eventually walked off.

Sharing the footage, he wrote: "Happened on campus. Got shook for a while. Called the police after this."

Since posting the vid, it has been viewed more than three million times, with thousands of people piling into the comments to ask for more info.

Expanding a little further on the video, Cedric said: "For those who are asking, the guy came up and asked me if my car was a Maserati, and I couldn't understand what he said after that.

"I noticed the knife early and put the car in reverse incase he was going to do anything, but he just walked away.

"I made sure he was clear, then walked inside and called the campus police.

"After the call, I went back to the car to save the footage and noticed officers patrolling the area."

Others pointed out that it's a great piece of PR for the manufacturer.

"This is the best Tesla commercial I've ever seen," quipped one.

Another added: "Car paid for itself today."

But while this is an example of a Tesla working perfectly, the same cannot be said for an owner in London earlier this year whose motor ran out of juice at the most inopportune moment.

Drivers were fuming after a Tesla ran out of battery on a car park entry ramp and blocked the car park of Britain's biggest shopping centre.

The car park of London's Westfield Shopping Centre was reportedly blocked for three hours on 3 November, and a shopper named Henry took to Reddit to let out his frustrations.

He wrote: "Perfect, a Tesla ran out of battery and stopped at the ramp of a 5 storey car park at Westfield.

"It has been three hours and counting."
