A woman who was previously crowned the 'world's hairiest teenager' looks a lot different these days, as she's shaved it all off.

More than a decade after she bagged the Guinness World Record for her hirsute appearance, Supatra 'Nat' Sasuphan has now freed her face from the fleece which covered it.

The 24-year-old, from Thailand, suffers from Ambras Syndrome, which is a rare form of hypertrichosis, a condition which is sometimes referred to as 'Werewolf Syndrome'.

It causes excessive hair growth and 'dysmorphic facial features', according to the US National Library of Medicine.

There's only been 50 known cases since the Middle Ages, Guinness World Records said after bestowing the title of the 'world's hairiest teenager' on Supatra.

Speaking in 2010 after receiving the award, she said of life with Ambras Syndrome: "I don't feel any different to anyone else, and I've got lots of friends at school.

"Being hairy makes me special. This the happiest day of my life!"

Doctors had tried to rid her of the hair which covered the majority of her face - as well as her ears, arms, legs and back - with laser treatments, however, it continued to grow back thicker.

As a youngster, Supatra embraced her uniqueness and was a 'confident' little kid, according to her father Sammrueng.

He told Today in 2012: "She works and plays hard. We want people to understand she’s a normal little girl."

Supatra said that although she had made peace with having Ambras Syndrome, she still hoped she would be 'cured' one day in the future.

"There were a few people who used to tease me and call me monkey face but they don't do it any more," she said as a schoolgirl. "I'm very used to this condition. I can't feel the hair as it has always been like this.

"I don't feel anything. It does sometimes make it difficult to see when it gets long. I hope I will be cured one day."

Although she hasn't been able to rid herself of Ambras Syndrome, Supatra has since found a way to manage it.

It was first reported in 2018 that the Thai woman had began to regularly shave her face to tame the amount of hair she had covering it.

In snaps shared to social media, Supatra looked unrecognisable without the thick hair which formerly covered her face.

It appears as though she's kept up with her shaving regimen over the last few years too, if her latest Facebook pictures are anything to go by.

Supatra has been sharing a string of loved-up images with her new partner, who she has apparently been dating for the last seven months.

Although hypertrichosis is very rare, she's not the only one who suffers from it - as the family of a toddler in Malaysia have also spoken out about how she deals with the condition.

A lad from India who also has 'werewolf syndrome' also previously revealed what it is like to live with excess hair covering his body.
