Getting a hair transplant is a huge decision which comes with its own risks, but is it worth all the hassle and pain?

A barber known as cuts_by_lb on social media, has shared all the aspects of his journey with a hair transplant, including the stages of swelling and how long it took to go back to 'normal'.

Real name Leo, the hair specialist took to Instagram for his followers to keep up with the process.

The transplant involves plucking healthy hairs from your scalp and neck, before being placed in areas which may be bald or thinning.

This means that patients can fill patches in and even create new hairlines if theirs start to recede beyond belief.

The cosmetic surgery procedure can cost anywhere between £1,000 and £30,000 in the UK, according to the NHS, so it isn't what you'd call cheap.

Obviously, this figure can differ depending on the extent of your hair loss, what type of procedure you have, and the care and quality of the clinic you go to for the operation.

It can take anywhere from 10 to 18 months for the results to shine through for patients, though within a matter of weeks, most will be able to start telling the difference.

But what about the healing period?

Leo made some videos about how he didn't enjoy going out in public with a swollen head, even noting that 'getting about in public like this is just not it'.

He's not alone in experiencing intense swelling to his noggin though, with many men experiencing changes to the size of their head for the first few days after the operation.

Leo said that it was 'pretty rough' by day four, along with that self-conscious feeling whenever he went outside with the open wounds in his head, along with a tightened head band.

At the end of the day, the hair transplant craze has risen in popularity as it gives men of all ages, the chance to get their quiff back and obviously, their confidence too.

The barber would later post updates two and four weeks after the operation and thankfully, unlike several other horror stories, he saw great results and a fresh new hairline.

Leo noted that all his scabs were gone, though there was some occasional stinging and itching, but nothing too painful.

He said he was 'happy' with the turnout, even heading for a haircut at the one-month mark as the back of his head was outgrowing the front.

While he kept the buzz cut look, he said that the new trim looked a lot better than it did when it was growing out, as he continues on his recovery journey and continues on his way to regain a head full of luscious locks.
