'Heatwave horn' explained as expert reveals link between sunshine and sex

There's a reason you might be feeling a little hornier than usual

A sex expert has revealed what 'heatwave horn' is and why it often feels the same every summer.

So if you're feeling a little bit hornier than usual, then there's no need to worry.

Risking sounding a bit like Jim's dad from American Pie, it's completely normal to be thinking about sex during the warmer weather months.

Although the UK weather is pretty s**t at the moment, James Madden from Exacta Weather is predicting 'extreme heat across our shores from as early as around next weekend and for several days during early August', as reported by Yorkshire Live.

But it turns out that when the sun does comes out, so does that urge to succumb to your sexual desires, whatever they may be.

And it seems 'heatwave horn' is no joke, as Annabelle Knight, a sex and relationship expert for Lovehoney, previously explained why Brits were getting hornier 'during a heatwave'.

What is 'heatwave horn'?

Annabelle told the Star in 2019 that 'Britain is facing a sex boom as temperatures go red hot this week'.

"Science shows us that passion rises at the same time as temperatures and this is why we feel more loved up during a heatwave."

Dr G P Anusha wrote for Cloud Nine Care that there happens to be a link between 'Vitamin D and libido'.

"Vitamin D is a micronutrient derived from food and a hormone the body produces, but it needs sunlight," Dr Anusha explained.

"Vitamin D affects the nervous and cardiovascular systems, and the endocrine system affects libido. A study found a link between summer sunlight and libido."

She added: "It found that vitamin D boosted the libido and mood of females between 20 and 40 years of age, enhanced estrogen levels, especially for vitamin D deficient women, and improved testosterone levels in men.

"Considering that most people are vitamin D deficient, getting sunshine in the summer may improve sex drive."

'The sex was so mind-blowing'

Sex columnist Almara Abgarian recalled how heatwave horn once lead to the most 'mind-blowing' sex several years ago.

In a piece for the Metro, she explained how she met this guy in the pool on holiday and the pair instantly hit it off.

After telling him she was heading up for a shower, the man appeared at her door in his towel.

"Suddenly, without warning, he reached his arm towards my waist and pulled me in so that we were standing with our faces inches apart," she explained.

"I smiled and gently nodded – a silent version of giving my consent – and he leaned in for a hot, passionate kiss.

"‘If you’re free later, let’s meet up. I am staying two floors down in flat 26,’ he said when we finally came up for air.

"I went to his room later that night and the sex was so mind-blowing I went back for seconds the following evening. The things we do for some Vitamin D."
