Ex-hotel boss refuses to use shampoo and conditioner from hotels in grim warning to travellers

Ex-hotel boss refuses to use shampoo and conditioner from hotels in grim warning to travellers

People are being put off hotels altogether

There's an incredibly grim reason as to why one ex-hotel boss refuses to use shampoo and conditioner in hotel showers.

While hotels are meant to be a brief haven away from real life with the laundry, cleaning and washing all taken care of - it seems there are some elements to a home away from home that are really making people's skin crawl.

One former hotel manager has revealed exactly why you should avoid lathering your locks in anything from your hotel shower.

The former hotel manager's travel tips are freaking out the internet.

Melissa Hanks, an ex-hotel boss, frequently takes to TikTok to share with her 68.2k followers the ins and outs of the industry and provides some life-saving advice to unknowing travellers.

Speaking from years of experience, Melissa now confidently knows exactly which items in a rented room shouldn't be trusted by visitors.

In one TikTok video, the former hotel manager revealed why guests should avoid using certain hotel toiletries and the reason is pretty stomach-churning.

She revealed: "I will never use these refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles that are in the shower.

The hotel boss said she 'never' uses toiletries in hotel rooms which aren't secured.

"People could put anything in them, and I've seen Nair and God knows what else in there."

If you're not familiar with Nair - it's a hair removal cream that works by dissolving the hair so you can wipe it away.

Not exactly an ideal outcome really.

And it doesn't stop there.

The overlay text in the video went on to claim Melissa had even seen 'bodily fluids' in the 'unsecured bottles'.

Such bottles can easily be unscrewed and, as Melissa knows too well, be tampered with.

The former hotel boss then went on to show another type of toiletry pump which is safe to use as it can be securely locked and only refilled or emptied by staff.

The hotel manager revealed she found 'bodily fluids' in the shampoo bottles.

She said: "Now, these I will use because if you look, you have to unlock them to open them and refill."

The TikTok has since clocked up over 1.8 million views on the platform with a whole heap of comments from people eager to share their reactions to the hotel manager's travel tips.

Many were left reeling by the reveal with one TikTok user writing: "New fears unlocked."

"Same," replied another, "it never occurred to me that people would do that."

A third hotel-goer added: "Oh my gosh, I am so innocent I would have never thought any of that would happen."

Secured dispensers are said to be the better option.

Fellow hotel staff members also shared their own stories and advice in the comments.

One penned: "After being a housekeeper at a hotel, I just never want to stay in one ever again."

"I was a hotel housekeeper for three weeks, they told me to just remake the beds, not strip them. I don't trust hotels at all," posted another.

A final hotel worker added: "I worked at a resort and watched the housekeeper wipe the toilet then use that same rag to wipe off the coffee pot!! I'm still disgusted."
