Woman left in tears after finding out the true meaning of tattoo she got in Fiji

The TikToker was sobbing over her tattoo, which she fully consented to getting

A woman was left in tears after realising the meaning of the tattoo that she got on holiday.

Going on a trip across the world to a country with a different culture and littered with new experiences can be great, until it drives you to do something that you might regret.

That's exactly what happened to this social media creator, who has gone viral for posting a video in tears about her new ink.

It's rule number one when you're getting tattoo in a language you don't know - understand what it says.

Arguably the bare minimum you need to know before going into the studio to get one done, this Australian TikToker didn't really get the memo.

Amy Dickinson posted a video while crying to her 95,000+ followers, pleading them to help her with her new body artwork, which she got done in Fiji.

"I didn't know that Fijians could be so mean, because now I've got a tattoo and I don't even know what it means,

"So can someone tell me what I have on my body, please?"

Flipping the camera, she sobbed: "Okay, this is my tattoo. What does that even mean?"

The tattoo read 'Matanivola Levu', and it was inked on her upper thigh, luckily tucked away so the majority of people would never see it.

Attributing the mistake to the fact that she was a 'fun, spontaneous person', while also explaining in a follow-up TikTok that it was 'so brat coded' to consent to getting a tattoo in a foreign language - a phrase for you younglings.

However, with the help of some of her followers, she was able to find out what the tattoo really meant.

One user revealed: "That’s 'capital letter' in Fijian".

I can confirm as an avid Google Translate user that this is, in fact, correct.

Another pointed out: "That's actually hilarious - it says 'capital letters' but it's all lower case... Brilliant."

However, someone insisted that there is an alternate meaning to the phrase, writing: "'Big Book' in Fijian can translate to mean you have many stories to tell, which is a way of saying you have many adventures."

A fourth echoed these thoughts, adding: "Matanivola levu means that you are like a big book which is like you have so many stories to share n tell it’s nothing bad dw".

Some questioned if her tattoo was real at all, which led to another video where she said she 'wished' she was lying, but she's now bound to the ink for life.

Standing in front of a mirror, she lifted her shorts to reveal the two Fijian words.

Important lesson then - understand what you're permanently inking on your body.
