"How often do you masturbate?"

It's not a question you're typically faced with on a day-to-day basis, and maybe one you'd only expect to hear from a curious partner or concerned doctor, but indie adult filmmaker Erika Lust isn't holding back as she asks people that very question.

Lust previously became known for letting her staff take 'masturbation breaks' in the office, meaning that while the rest of us centre our breaks mainly around making a cup of tea, grabbing a snack or running to the bathroom, her staff have been able to do a lot more with their time thanks to the 'masturbation station' set up at their office in Barcelona.

The owner of Erika Lust Films offered her staff members a 30-minute break to take care of themselves, explaining that the designated station would allow her workers to 'feel good' and therefore perform better on the job.

Now, Lust is delving into the subject on a whole new level in her mini documentary Masturbation Conversations, which involves interviewees from Barcelona discussing their 'self-pleasure journey'.

The documentary sees a number of participants declaring that yes, they do masturbate, with one expressing belief that a lot of people who claim otherwise are 'just probably ashamed to admit it'.

The details don't stop there, as some of the volunteers also use a soft, vagina-shaped model to demonstrate exactly how they find their pleasure.

During Masturbation Conversations, participants are asked a range of questions on the subject of self-pleasure, including what they were taught about it growing up; how, when, and why they masturbate; and whether they talk about it with their partner, family, or children.

The answers varied among participants, with one man revealing he once went a couple of months without self-pleasure while a woman detailed ranging from going at it one week before taking a lengthy break, with her habits depending on when she's in the mood.

While promoting the documentary, Lust explained that masturbating can 'have many benefits', but noted 'for some reason just saying the word out loud makes some people feel funny, or even embarrassed'.

"The truth is masturbation can help people manage stress, regulate their sleep, and connect with their body and sexual desires, among other advantages," the filmmaker continued, before inviting people to share their own reasons for masturbating in the Instagram comments section.

The release of the documentary has been celebrated by viewers, with one describing it as 'super informative' while others thanked Lust for the creation.
