People shocked to find out how often married couples really have sex

Each to their own, I guess!

Getting busy in the bedroom can depend on a lot of factors but people have still been shocked to discover how often married couples fool around.

It's a joke as old as time that once you're married, the sex becomes a lot less frequent, but that's certainly not true for everyone, with some couples now honest about opening up their marriages via swinging festivals, spicy cruise ships or even live on TV.

While we're a far more sex-positive generation than those gone by, with sex before marriage no longer the taboo it once was, it seems as if numbers are only going down when we compare to that of 10 or 20 years ago.

So although the youth of today seem to love talking about sex, it worryingly seems as if a large proportion of their experience comes from the world of pornography, which really isn't good experience at all and can even lead to some issues when they come to the real thing.

Thanks to therapists and health professionals, we already have an idea of how often we should be having sex each week, but putting those plans into action can often be the hard part.

It's impossible to put an exact number on how often every married couple in the world has sex, especially when there's some folks out there participating in events like No Nut November, but thanks to data, we can come up with a rough estimation.

While it's important to stress that when it comes to sex, it's all about quality over quality, people are always intrigued to find out how often other couples might be doing the dirty, and psychologist Simon Sherry has an answer.

He wrote: "Americans in their 20s have sex about 80 times per year, approximately once every four to five days. That number drops to 20 times per year for those in their 60s."

It seems as if the joke does have some grounding to it, as Sherry also confirmed that married men and women both reported a drop in numbers after the nuptials were completed.

He adds: "Married people tend to have sex more frequently than non-married people—but even married people are having less sex. The percentage of married men who reported having sex at least once a week declined from 71.1 percent to 57.7 percent between 2000 and 2018. The percentage of married women who reported the same also decreased (69.1 percent to 60.9 percent)."

Dr Sherry makes it clear that it's not just married folks who are doing it less, but also younger people and humanity as a whole, something he puts down to more pleasurable activities being available, worse mental and physical health and longer workdays.
